I'm going to the Boat Show and one of my intended purchases is an Inflatable. I'm inclined towards the Plastimo P240 which seems relatively compact and good value.

Anybody out there got any experience of this boat and/or comments on it?

Thanks,

Ed

I've got one - had no problems with it. Not sure there is a high speed inlfation/deflation option for these dinghies. From recollection they dont recommend it to avoid damaging the internal membranes. Not sure what engine package you are looking for - we've got a Tohatsu 4hp which seems at the top end of the power/weight needs.

On the whole its a good dinghy. Given the hard transom it wont roll up too small but comes in a nice carry bag.

I bought a Suzumar 250 this summer and am well pleased. They sell 'em cheap so they can bundle motors up with them (which I didn't buy). Inflatable floor and keel are great.

With 1 (or 1 and a bit ) aboard it planes with my 12 yr old 3.3 hp Johnson.

The tubes are huge, it's v. stable, but weighs too much for easy handling by 1 person.

Only thing I would say with the cheaper inflatables is that the Avons and so on have bigger circumference sides, which means more buoyancy and also that you do not get as wet. I had a small Plastimo in my old boat, and with 2 adults and two kids whoever was in the bow got soaked, unlike the dry ride with my old Avon. On the new boat I therefore bit the bullet and got an Avon again.
I would therefore take a good look at the size of the sides and compare it to the Avons etc.

Only one problem.

The rowlocks are attached by a hollow plastic pivot tube held in place by a couple of ss self tappers. On my 240 BOTH of these pivots have broken. It happened wen i was rowing ashore in Nidri on Ithaka where there is a superb stainless fabricator who was born in the UK. He made me two replacements in stainless tubing (& only wanted 3 euros!) which are working fine. The initial weakness COULD have been caused by us stowing the dinghy inverted on the coachroof I suppose.

I have had one for 3 years and it is excellent. Only problem is that as it is so solid it is also a bit heavy. Perhaps the newer ones are lighter.
