Looking out of the window at the moment you could be forgiven for thinking that the idea of planning ahead to the new season is a bit pointless - all the water seems to be in the atmosphere at the moment!

However on a positive note, I wondered who is making plans for some new adventures in 2016?

For me, I really hope to extend our boating a bit further afield this year, so some longer trips planned and more trailing to new locations is my aim. Would really like to get up the coast from Torbay to Lyme Regis, Westbay and ultimately around Portland to Weymouth. Regular run for many I know, but for our little Fletcher 150 it's going to mean picking a good weather window! I visit Portland regularly in the course of work, so always have a look at various sea states, winds, tides etc so hope by planning to avoid a need to turn tail after crossing Lyme Bay... :)

Further ahead, a friend and myself hope to cover all the SW Coast from Poole around to Bristol. Will likely take a season or two, but the aim is to achieve in one or two day stages - launching at port A, cruising to B and recovering, then relaunch where we finished at B on a later date and cruise to C, recovering and so on. No hurry for this adventure and will have to fit around work etc, but aim to start this year - exploring the various sections as we go.

So, has anyone else set themselves any challenges or aims for 2016?

Last year I went from portsmouth to Brighton and then Eastbourne. This year I want to double that distance and go to Falmouth it's about 160-180nm so will have to probably do an overnight stop on way because it may be cutting it close on the fuel that I can carry. When there would like to do the small hop over to scilly isle that will be added euro use enough for me. All I need to do now is persuade the wife it's a great idea and she will love it

That sounds like a great trip - you need to drop some hints and get her to think of the idea. :encouragement: Will look forward to hearing how you get on - and some pictures!

Crikey, that's impressive detail - I wish I was that organised! :p The planning there is as detailed as we did for the Fletcher Rallies :encouragement:

Hopefully will get up for the April gathering - ideally with boat, but need to work on the other half as she's a tad apprehensive... (And she's not the one going!)

:D yes, kind of, I opened my big gob and ended up as power boat CM / sailing captain for NWCC. Not that it's a particularly big fleet, most of the club being raggies, but I'm hoping a heavy dose of rohypnol in the local marinas water supply will get a few more mobo'ers to inadvertently sign up on the dotted line

Talking of which, the long weekend following the Beer and Natter is the round Anglesey cruise. If you are bringing your boat up you might want to leave it for the week and participate? All these are open events.

Only been out the once in November when it was a pleasant 21c
I'm lead to believe it's currently 16c and calm.

Going out for MX in late February but I suspect full exploration won't happen until Easter hols in March

Ah, I did wonder if I'd missed some news as been busy with work.

Tantalisingly close and yet so far! I can relate to that... Will look forward to the write up in March! ;)

We are thinking of heading a little further East and West from Poole as well as some overnighters to IOW.. Maybe venture around Portland but for now Weymouth is the farthest destination in that direction.. No firm plans yet for when it will all happen but we are thinking of abandoning the holiday abroad this year for a holiday aboard.. Guess we will have to see where that ends up.. :)

For our main two week summer holiday I made a preliminary passage plan yesterday . Shifted the start date by a week compared to the chief officers original suggestion as it resulted in more favourable tide times.
Holidays the rest of the year will also be boating related - a number of long weekends worked well last year so we will repeat that.

Getting married in Torquay mid July, boat will be used for transport to/from, just praying that we don't get the usual Torbay rain on the day, was last there early December and despite the strong winds it was better weather than I've had some summers there. Then boat will be going somewhere on Hamble for August, after that depends on weather.

After 7 years in Portishead, we are moving our boat to Torquay.

Been down to Torquay today to look at which berth. (c40) travelling from Bristol in the car it's only a 1.5 hour trip. However I will miss popping down to the boat when I feel like it.

Really looking forward to the trip in late March or April. I.e. Wait for a decent weather window. Refuel
Padstow and again in Falmouth just to be safe. 2 or 3 days, depending on tides and weather etc.
