Hello everyone.
i'm looking for pistons for PERKINS SABRE 370 Ti. That's a problem to find them...
Could you give me a hint where to get them, new or used in good condition.

Thanks. I wrotee to seahorspower, but i didn't get any ansfer from them.
I'll write to the firms you suggested.

The engine is Perkins Sabre, but pistons with FORD logo.

Going around asking for piston spares for Perkins Sabre will confuse the heck out of people........Your engine is a Sabre 370L produced BEFORE Perkins tied the knot with Sabre.

You have a problem, when Cat took over Perkins Sabre there was a massive clear out of low turn parts, everything went in the scrap.

If I can explain what engine you have. Sabre were super creative with the Dover base engine which is 115 X 105 stroke/bore giving 5.950 cc used on engines up to 320hp.

The was a large bore Ford automotive engine 132 X 112 stroke/bore giving 7.781 cc produced exclusively by Ford Brazil marinised by Sabre in ratings up to 430hp. Sabre found the Brazilian Ford motor a big ground anchor hit on a plan to modify the Dover block to take the 112 mm pistons from the 7.781 cc motor, the result was 115 X 112 engine giving 6.798 cc with a rating of 370hp. The 6.8 block was modified to such an extent that it became a unique Sabre part.

Ford lobbed a missile into the whole Sabre product plan by getting out of Dover production in the the UK and to make matters even worse in 1993 by ending all large bore engine production in Brazil and switched to outsourcing engines from Cummins for trucks produced in Brazilian plant which is why Sabre started talking to Perkins.

Getting back to your piston problem, you have unique block and a piston out of engine which was all washed up by 1995. However now you understand what you have start searching for 'Brazilian Ford 7.781 112mm pistons', trust me it does fit, plenty sold into U.S market and you may strike lucky and stop referring to engine as Perkins Sabre.

Price of 'specials' together with production run is not financially viable, try also Mahle Brazil you could be lucky.

Seahorse Marine, a sales guy from Hendy Lennox who know Sabre stuff real well and runs Seahorse in his spare time. I tried ordering a pair of Turkish Ford Dovertec engines in February......Hopeless emails never answered.

Good luck going after Ford Brazil 112mm pistons.

Boy I can think of a lot of broom boats out there with obsolete engines , one of which I did think about buying, it's a 44 with the 430 Brazilian lumps in.

I have found the following pistons. Does it what you mean? I m not sure about saddle valves. It important?

Bingo!

Looked at the description cannot see term saddle valves and means nothing to me?

However looks like you hit pay dirt, for just $100 just go ahead and purchase one and compare with what you have. Compression ratio may be different however with availability and a good price just take a punt.

Paul, I also briefly considered purchasing the same boat, maybe that is why it is still for sale.

Hello guys,

Very sorry to bring up an old thread.

I "was" the happy new owner of a boat with 2X Perkins Sabre M370TI engines, which now are due for an overhaul as the season is over.

Looks like I was one of the guys who didn't do proper due diligence on the engines of my newly acquired boat. I was assured by the boat seller that spare parts for these engines were no issue, and the seller even assured me they would do it for me when the time came.

Problem is that now the time is here to overhaul engines and we simply can't locate spare parts for pistons.

I have been in contact with every possible manufacture I could find on Alibaba, but no one can source these pistons. I also tried in the US, even with custom forge manufacturers, but no luck.

I just recently discovered this thread and based on @Latestarter1 words, I have gone ahead and ordered 1x of the Ford 7.8L Brazilian (FOHN6110KA) Piston today.

It will be costing me around 500 dollars to bring this Piston to my location in Asia, to test if it will work with the engine.

I am attaching screenshots of the engine leaflet along with my current pistons.

I am concerned about the 7.8L ford Brazilian pistons, which piston crown does not have the toroidal carving, as my current pistons and described in the leaflet.

I do not know the significance of following
A) using a 7.8L piston in an engine for 6.8L
B) Using a vastly different crowned piston without toroidal carvings at the piston crown.

I welcome any ideas, comments on the above or contacts for sourcing pistons for my engines, as it currently looks like I will have to invest in two new engines.

Thank you.

Even though the brochure pictured says Perkins Sabre the engine in the pic is in fact a heavily modified Ford Dover block.

I think Sabre saw a market for more hp, so they cast a special big bore version of the Dover.

You need to talk to Steve Atkins at Seahorse power.

Appreciate it, I will reach out to Seahorse Power and pray for a solution that does not involve buying 2x new engines.
