Pipedream's progress in the Jester Challenge

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Gary - sorry I missed your call last evening.

On the last positions George and Alan were 68miles apart - a long way in sailing hours and with George ahead of Alan it means George changing course and slowing down his advance on the Azores in order that Alan could catch up. I guess that he will settle for using a bit of rope to lash the tiller while he sleeps etc and just helm by hand for the next 3 days.

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Would some kind and knowledgable person please tell me the destination / race finish coordinates. It looks as though they are heading for Terceira but I thought the finish was at Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel.

Great progress- we are all so proud of your achievement.

Colin.

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

There was some confusion over this - see discussion in this thread.

It was going to be Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, then they changed to Praia de Vitoria, Terceira.

And it looks like one boat has arrived already! Dominique Katan in Nea-Kameni. And Lucy is expected any minute.

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Just catching up after an evening of over indulgence.

Looks like it might get a bit windy and lumpy for a bit (looking at passageweather.com but calm again by the end. Steady mileage in an impressively straight line (despite what Bernie might think /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif).
F4 on a beam reach in calm seas - don't happen to me! It is what you would wish Alan.

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Hey!

I can only assume the straight line course has been achieved by the windvane. Can't possibly be Alan's helming! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Joking aside, I am completely hooked on this trip and am following Alan's progress every day. Great stuff Alan, can't wait to hear all about it when you return.

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Alan's 12th report below - Gary

120608 1400 39DEG59.6N 23DEG57.8W 164NM TO GO. WIND SSW AND STRENGTENING SO GETTING V.BOUNCY AND WET. OTHERWISE ALL OK.

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Less mileage left than a return trip to Ostend...

Splendid effort.

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Message from Alan (Pipedream) at 14.12 hrs today.

"THANKS COL. YOU JUST CAN NOT BELIEVE THE SIZE OF THE SWELL IM IN.10M OR SO. ITS OUTRAGEOUS !!!! "

Looks like the final hurdle has been set high !! - So much for yesterday's prediction of good sailing conditions !! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hang in there Alan - almost there.
