pinta autopilot how does it work

Had a look at an old hillyard today with wheel steering via gears, chain and cable. fixed to a pinta autopilot via chain. the whole thing was a complete mystery how does it work. anyone know.

I have bought a 1971 Moody Halberdier with one of these Pinta Auto Pilots fitted and was looking for info on it when I saw yr message. I am also rather bothered by the mass of mechanical gear, although I do have hand book. Did you ever sort yrs out? I am hoping that once I am on the water next Spring It will explain its self. Its interesting how far these things have come in the last 30yrs.
