FuzzNutz has a waterproof GPS tracker on him. He is a devil. When he gets a chance, even in unfamiliar ports, he has a nightly range of 4.5 mile radius and will not return until the sun is up. You can hunt him down and get within a yard of him but when you bend down to pick him up he hops off 5 yards, rolls over and dares you to try catch him again. He comes back when he is good and ready and makes the tide wait on him. We also have a whippet cross staffie onboard with a herding instinct and she should be called Fastusfek but even she cant catch the little beggar. He runs like a turbo charged slinky!, takes the high ground and when the mutt turns around he launches onto her back before springing off and provoking another hopeless chase.
And if you think he is a mouser think again. He catches leaves. Some mornings you wake up to a cabin floor resembling a wind trap. His claim to fame is bringing back brambles. Going for a midnight leak leads to much cursing and hopping about silently so as not to wake the missus so she could also delight in his efforts.

Does having a cat onboard result in them clawing everything? I've leather sofas etc onboard and always think they'll ended up shredded with a little feline friend taking residency.

There's another very annoying thing about dogs on boats. When someone/a fisherman/whatever goes by, the dog starts barking and within seconds, all the dogs on boats join in, with no idea why or what they're barking at. And that just ruins the peace and tranquility of a quiet anchorage.
