Does anybody use a PDA for boat GPS use?

I don't know much about PDA's and my boyfriend wants one for xmas.

His requirements are:
Must have GPS - he intends to use this on his boat (and car) I presume you can buy marine mapping software etc - this does not need to come with the PDA as he can buy these himself at a later date (I'm also assuming this would bump the price of the PDA up if I bought them already installed?)

Wireless/wifi access - but not a phone, as he's not allowed to have mobile switched on at work for security reasons.

Comes with/or available seperately waterproof case (for use on boat)

He'd like all the usual software etc, and I'd like to get him a good name brand one (I had a pda solely for satnav, when I had a problem with it, it was really hard to fix and difficult to get advice from forums etc - it was a Medion - in the end I swapped it for a tomtom).

Anyway, I'd greatly appreciate any advice, I don't really know where to start researching the best one! My budget it maximum £200 - thats really pushing it tho!

That's going to be a pretty tall order for £200. you might try the Dell Outlet site to see if they have any Axims on offer.

If his office bans mobile phones only, they are not fulfilling industry standard endpoint security, as wifi access on a pc or PDA can send output from the microphone direct to someone else as a sound file !

I'm also looking for a pda with integrated gps. A friend who is a ppl pilot uses a mitac mio 550 and has had no problems with it. These come in at £180 and £240 with bluetooth and wireless. Hopefully the urls below will give you an idea of what is available, also maptec supply pda marine navigation software.

Global positioning systems

I have a Dell Axim X50 I got second hand on eBay for £127. Good processor speed etc. There are loads on there but as always be careful...
