Passports and Ireland

Courtesy of a competition in my local rag I am off soon for a few days' sailing to Southern Ireland on the "Lord Nelson". The Jubilee Sailing Trust insists that I need a passport. I am sceptical. Whether it is Cork Week, the Liverpool-Dublin Sea Cat, cruising to Kinsale or a Fastnet-qualifier race to Howth, I have never carried a passport in the Irish Republic. Who is right? Has anyone ever been asked for their passport in the Emerald Isle?

Not required (Period)

No UK person requires a passport to visit Ireland.

I'm surprised at this question. A simple search on the internet will repeat what I have just said. That said, I'm surprised at a whole host of questions that are asked here whose answers are readily available through any of the available internet search engines.

No passport required. Consult Reeds Almanac for 2001. *

Re: Passports, Ireland & Registration

I've just forked out for an SSR certificate to take my smaller boat to Ireland (Eire). Have I wasted my money?

No - because it costs so little. However, unlike the French the Irish don\'t care about SSR or Part 1 *
