Passport Escales

Couple of additions to note...the system can only back date a day,I think, so don't be late in checking in!
Also, two nights, yes, but you must leave the berth for a day elsewhere to restart, or pay up from then on.
The mobile app works pretty well and the website might well have the info you need..or a UK phone number!
We ve been north and west Brittany for a couple of months and paid for about 7 days in total.
There are a few marinas..very few..that are not part if it, btw.

I have a berth yearly contract with a CPM marina (Locmiquelic, same as John Sybarite), this gives/has given us so far:
1. Unlimited number of nights in any of the CPM marinas, provided they are no more than 2 consecutive: I could go in Port haliguen for two days, then Crouesty for two days, then port haliguen for the following two days, etc etc for a whole (surely very boring) year
2. Other non CPM marinas, up to 5 days per year, max 2 consecutive. Example Coruna has two marinas adhering to the system, we spent a fortnight there paying only 3-4 nights. A bit short of one month cruising Galicia we saved in excess of 7-800e in marina costs.

It's a maximum of 2 nights in any location, but there is no limit to how many places you can visit and how many nights in total, so long as you have registered that number of nights for your berth being free for others to use.

The cost of the card is 20 Euros.

Edit : Roberto says it all.

Thanks for the thread this reminded me I needed to log in top PE and check out the boat. I have a Passport Escale through MDL marinas and I think I get 5 nights / marina / year - that is what the website suggests. Last year I'm pretty sure my total stay away was more than 5 nights. No extra charge for the card... but maybe its just included in the berth fees. Also the check out function is not used by my home marina (I checked) so you can be generous on dates if you are a bit unsure how long you will be away for.

Actually, I spent a good deal of time at Arzal during my first 2 years there. In summation it is cheap, bucolic, hard to reach without a car, well provisioned for boats, poorly provisioned for people (for which La Roche Bernard is a 50 minute trip up river), disconcerting /interesting lock access and the staff are professional and helpful. A good place to sail from for a week or more but definitely not a weekend retreat.

I love it and thank you for your previous info. The Vilaine is beautiful. Passeport Escales is great and works for us. Arzal gives VERY good opportunities for cheap moorings whilst cruising. Not all PE Contracts are the same, you need to check what you are getting.

I sailed in Brittany last year with a lady who berths at Hythe Marina near Southampton - its a similar deal from them, but apparently not exactly the same.

You have to buy MDL's "Freedom Berthing" package to the Passeport Escales

Freedom Berthing members are entitled to up to 5 free visitor nights at each of the participating marinas. Only two consecutive free nights can be claimed, although you can stay longer at the normal overnight visitor rate. Members may return to the same marina following a night away to continue their free entitlement.

Ours was with MDL too. Our permanent berth was woolverstone and we planned to move to marina di stabia in italy. We freedom berthed along the south coast and then used the passeport all the way to La Rochelle. Where we handed boat to delivery crew. Our contract swapped on arrival in Italy. We paid for maybe 3 nights in the whole trip. One of which was the 3rd night in La Rochelle as it’s a max 2 per visit. Fantastic scheme. With the MDL one it’s 5 days per marina. You could spend your whole year away. Theoretically if your permanent berth is in a cheaper location and you are prepared to move a lot you could save thousands per year. We tried not to take the Michael but use it in the spirit intended.
