Does any one know of a website that provides information on Volvo equivalents between marine and truck use for filters etc. MBY or MBM did an article on it a while ago but I cannot seem to search it, and my next move will be to start going through the pile of mags in our garage, which would probably put SWMBO off the edge.
Why? well I saw an air filter for a Volvo Fm7 truck this morning in our works which basically has a 74p Volvo in it. The price of the Air filter was £70 but the marine one is double the price so I would like to do the research.

I know I can get the numbers off the parts and probably find the equivalents, but the boat is not in the UK yet and this bit of research would keep my mind off it.

My preferred route would be to use people like Keypart
http://www.keypart.com/
rather than do the research yourself. I have heard of cases where people have bought truck equivalent oil filters but because of the filter positioning the filters have not needed a non return valve. For the boat application the fitting of a non return valve in the filter was critical.
On saying that, I don't think you can go too far wrong with an air filter.
hope this helps

ey parts ok I use them. Trouble is, they price them just below volvo prices. I keep meaning to take the numbers off the volvo filters and get them cross referenced to fram or whatever. Theres a web site some where that will do it for you. Else call in at a Truck spares place and let them look it up. Car and garage type shops would do, but maybe have to order them specially.

Don't know if this is any use to you but for Volvo Penta 2000 series the following are interchangeable:

Fuel filter fitted on engine (VP829913) Motaquip VFF 113
Lube Oil filter (VP834337) Motaquip VFL 177

My first fuel filter/water separator is a CAV296 - Fram equivalent P4186

I get the alternative bits through the local auto spares shop.

Its actually the TAMD74P a 480HP Volvo diesel. The 7.4 Litre petrol V8 will be based on a GMC engine with a few bits changed for the the marine conversion.
I remember a few years ago someone checked and certainly one of the marine diesel filters used the same numbers as the truck part. As regards CJs concern of one way filters being differet that would be unlikely, the market is such that everyone takes a generic filter type with enough flow and capacity etc. and uses that. Filters ted to be made by specialists such as Fram etc. So generally if it's the same dimensions and thread then it will be the same.
Keypart tend to price based on the Marine price rather than the equivalent truck/car part so very often can be quite expensive. The cambelts and tensioners for mine certainly bear that out.

Re:Ic

Cheapest answer Clive is to buy from either Keypart or ASAP and get the part numbers off of it then wander down the local motor factors. The other way is to buy one that fits and wander along the shelves of Halfords and find an equiv. Once found you can look up the part number and find what else it fits. The market for OEM filters world wide is actually quite small so in real terms not a huge number exist.

Re:Ic

Not used Fleetguard but would be interested to know how they are on price. Only gave that url because I knew you could get the part numbers and the pictures.

Finola was moved from that mooring last week as the boats out for the winter are now back in the water. The nets have been taken down, cleaned and folded will check on the outside later this week. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Of course the nets have been taken down, to be sent onto Clive to put up in the Sealine, to keep the strong Spanish Sun out /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
