I may be about to buy a private yacht in turkey, what kind of paperwork will be required to complete purchase an transfer of title / ownership into my name.
Thank you

Hi there , thank you for ur speedy response, all sounds good to go , but that last remark, I’m an English citizen, what are the reasons why I wouldn’t be eligible to register a boat in turkey? I’m happy to keep the Turkish flag whilst I’m in Turkey
Thanks again

Most countries have citizenship or residency requirements but I don't know the exact requirements for Turkey. I was certainly asked for my residency certificate when I registered a boat here and a family member who is a co-owner is a citizen so it wasn't an issue. Best source to ask is also the Harbour Master.

That’s all good then by the sound of that, it’ll put my mind at rest as the owner says this can all be done in a couple of days. I was expecting it to take at least 3-4 weeks.

I have a similar query. Looking at buying a boat that is registered in the EU, vat paid. I am Australian. My son however has a Hungarian passport, as does my wife. I am thinking that i can buy it in one of their names.
Now i also don't know about insurance, or qualifications. My last boat, a tri, i couldn't even get insurance on.

Qualifications? I have done quite a lot of sailing and never had much in the way of qualifications; to operate a sailing vessel with an auxiliary motor, provided it doesnt go too fast, we don't have to have anything more than a motor boat license. And that's mostly for the dinghy. So I'd like to know what i can expect to have to get and what i can do without in the regulation riddled EU.
Any info gratefully accepted, just not sure where to ask these questions.
Cheers
Perry
