GRP boat with two types of locker:

the ones inside the cabins (used for clothing, personal kit, and minor equipments), and

those in the cockpit (for sheets, fenders, fuel cans, etc., and exposed a bit more to spray).

Some have been painted with a matt grey paint (possibly bilge paint ?) and some still have unfinished translucent glass-fibre .

It would be good to end up with the cabin ones being smooth, bright, and easily cleaned, and the cockpit ones having a tough covering which did not mind the occasional salty hank of cordage being dumped therein.

I am taken by the blurb of Ronseal Diamond Floor paint, but cannot reference its use on raw GRP. It would be handy to have one type/make of paint for both areas. Would two pack polyurethane be a pain to apply in cold conditions, or can someone recommend a magic non-boaty paint that would suit the task in hand, please ?

TIA

I used Diamind Floor Paint on a new ply thwart i made for an inflatable. The wood had two coats of epoxy then rubbed down. No primer, straight on with 3 coats of floor paint with only an hour between coats (in warm weather! But it can be dried faster with a heat gun with no adverse effect) It adhered and went on nicely. Can't report on life expectancy yet.....

In cockpit lockers where I keep clothes my preference is not to paint but to line with carpet!

Used garage floor paint from B & Q both Ronseal and International paints, both are grease, oil and water proof and available in many colours, also
used Toplac a few times yes more expensive but lasts for years :)

I'm gradually painting out all my lockers (cockpit, anchor and cabin) with white Danboline. Very dense colour, goes onto just about any surface, very hard, glossy finish. Made for the purpose, so why not use it?

I used that, it worked as you described but it yellowed very quickly.... still looks ok but just yellow/cream coloured....

I've also used white Danboline and found it very effective and very durable. My bilges were painted in it 7 years ago and no sign of any yellowing.
