Lack of taste, bad taste, tomatos, tomatas.

No, very different things. I don't care when people have different tastes from me, but I do find it disturbing when people deliberately choose a bland absence of taste. It suggests a remarkable lack of confidence.

You are proposing an unpleasant, classist, inverted snobbish standpoint and you dig and dig your grubby hole.

I'm not the one sneering at a TV representation of a working class American sitting room.

So now you are trying to say that tasteless means a bland absence of taste. You are twisting the meaning of your very own words. You know perfectly well what tasteless means. If you had meant what you now pretend to mean you would have said 'absent of taste' Pathetic.

Also, What's this about sneering - the best form of defense is attack? The trouble is your attack is baseless. There is no sneering from me, not even a sniff.

Your arguments are not reasonable and it is you who is the sneering classist, inverted snob.

I'm out of here with you. Post what you like, I will not respond any more.

Cashless = absence of cash. Colourless = absence of colour. Bootless = absence of, er, boot. Tasteless = absence of taste.

What a shame. Who will spring to the defence of the poor, beleaguered rich and tasteless now?

Are big motor yachts bland for the same reason as hotel rooms are bland - they spend much of their time on charter?
That's an interesting possibility.

Not all hotel rooms are bland. Earlier this year I spent a night in the Milton Keynes Hilton - don't laugh - in a truly wonderful room which had not been updated since the 70s. It's a lot later than the hotels Conrad Hilton built to show off American style, and there were some bits of updating, but the the overall effect was strong, well thought out and, nowadays, wonderfully retro.

There is no reason why motor boats could not be styled with similar verve - if not in the same way - and I suspect that some are, for buyers with greater confidence.
