outdrives - which one to choose

Didn't know it was a competition on who can do the most hours, does it really matter? People enjoy their boats in different ways.

it appears to matter on this forum, next thing someone will accuse you of being a "Sunday Sailor" a truly horrifying accusation I think most would agree........ at that point you realise not everyone is worth the time of day.

I suppose you expect a prize :p

Not really no.

Just pointing out that if you are only using your boat for 36 hours per year then you are highly unlikely to encounter many if any problems with your drive.

If you don't use it then it isn't going to wear out!

No, not a Sunday Sailor. A Butterfly Boater.

Never known one maintained properly to wear out.

We have had to replace a worn shaft.

This was damaged by repeatedly picking up fishing line which wore grooves in it mind.

Had to replace several worn hook up bushes but we count these as a maintenance item rather then wear.

I suppose you do if ditch crawling just to get anywhere!
Been to Southern Brittany and Western Isles twice.

Do you want an award for that?

Not all of our boating is ditch crawling. We spend a fair amount of time on the coast also :D

Next summer it is the west coast of Scotland for our main trip.

There is an overtone to this thread which is not great. To get away with it, this needs to be tongue in cheek which none of this is

That's the thing with an internet forum. You never quite know in what light a post was made.

What to one is light hearted banter or tongue in cheek could be taken the wrong way by someone else reading it in a different light.

We all start out with outdrives.
Well remember defending them against the no nothing detractors on this very forum many years ago, when my own boat sported a pair.
What did they know after all ?
Rather lot as it turned out !
If despite all the warnings, a boat with outdrives is all your money will buy or shafts were never an option, just get the newest outdrives you afford.
You will search long and hard for anybody who started with O/Ds and then progressed to shafts who would willingly go back.
You will note that the only supporters of O/Ds are those stuck with them :)
Might be wrong of course,so c,mon all you shaft men lets see hundreds of posts in praise of outdrives and prove me wrong.:)
