This year we bought a bigger inflatable (2.3m to 3.1m) which needed a bigger outboard (2.5hp 4 stroke to 8hp 2 stroke). All in all a big improvement, but the engine is a fair bit heavier. We use a handy billy from the end of the boom to raise a lower the thing, which certainly works, but there is still a moment when I am heaving the engine around the outside of the cockpit to get it onto the stern rail.

I know there are cranes and davits around which can be added to the pushpit. Ideally I'd like a removeable one, or something that folds down. With a counter stern, I don't need it to clear much distance aft - which is I think the point of most of the "folding down" designs.

Does anyone have suggestions as to who to speak to at the upcoming show, or am I better contacting a local stainless steel fabricator and having something bespoke made up?

This is how my bespoke one looks. The outboard in the pic is a 15hp mariner and it lifts with ease.

Thanks Roger - that's the sort of thing I had in mind. Does the top part with the blocks lift out, or is there something that locks it down?

Is the Plastimo one of any interest ... I was thinking of trying to make something similar but smaller

The top block is attached to a welded loop at the end of the boom. The whole bent tube swivels in the 2 bushes attached to the goal post and pushpit. There are 2 bosses one above the top bush holding it up and a second under the bottom bush stopping it from lifting.

The danbuoy has now been moved so the gib is free to rotate 180 degrees.

See my post on 05/07/2016. This refers to my mini davit which I made from soft soldered copper pipe as a prototype which I then had copied in SS. It's unobstusive but can support my 75 Kg and we've been using it for over 10 years now.

Have a look at Scanstrut. I have a very well designed removable davit on my radar pole.

They don't appear to make anything appropriate these days. At least not visible on their website.

I'm going to see if the Plastimo one is on display at the boat show. If not, I think I am after something like Roger's, but smaller with the base at the deck, and the top part removable - which sounds like a custom job.

The main jib of mine is a piece of 1 1/4" stainless steel gas pipe. If you know someone with a pipe bender that becomes easy then. Otherwise you could thread the one end of 2 pieces of SS gas tube and use a threaded elbow to make the bend.

I have stainless polishing equipment so I could polish and make it look nice.

The fixed swivel could be just a tube the the jib tube will fit loosely into fixed to a pushpit with worm drive clips.

Thanks Tony - couldn't see it for looking. Certainly an option, although at £500 it is at the expensive end of the spectrum.
