By now you'll be sick of the sight of my "Windy 8800" posts, but phone calls from the marine engineer (who is totally trustworthy) are beginning to make my bank balance implode.

3 of the 4 Duo props cannot be re-metalled and will have to be replaced. One of the Gimbal bearings that link the starboard motor to its drive is gone (due to salt water let in through knackered bellows). The bellows on both drives are clapped. The tank has been replaced at a cost of £720. The bilge pumps are clapped. The LPG carbs need upgrading at £300-400.

Is that all.....errrr, yes for now.

Ouch!!

Stable door and all that

Why didn't you get this chap to look the engines over before you bought it. once you've found a totally reliable engineer you'll almost want to marry him!! Or maybe getim to marry your daughter.

Re: Stable door and all that

That would have been my wish. However, I bought the boat in Brixham (and had it surveyed there, and I won't go into that!!) and it is now based in North Wales, where this engineer is.

And for those who want a good engineer in North Wales, it Rob Walker of Harbour Marine Engineering Services Ltd. Based at Pwllheli.

Actually I haven't, but I have done business with them before. I will get another set and see if SD can remetal them as spares.

Good idea! - thanks

I may be paying a little more than that but not much. The supplier is also local and so no postage. Just about even stevens I reckon - but thanks for tip-off anyway Duncan.
