Osbourne Bay No Mooring Buoys

Went there to anchor for lunch on Sunday.
The National Trust who own Osborne have opened tea rooms presuambly also selling ice creams.
My kids would have loved the opportunity to pop ashore for one, instead the one dinghy who did try it got immediately sent on his way.
Snobbery or lack of payment of a gate fee, but I thought the beach below the high water mark was public property (Crown Estates).
Besides they are missing a trick by denying there sellable goods to the boaties.

It's a small point, but Osborne house is not a National Trust property. It is in fact run by English Heritage

It seems that having no one to collect entry fees is the reason they are not allowing landing.
Seems daft not to allow access to the cafe and not to have provision to collect entry fees at the cafe
The usual rules about access to the beach below the HW mark do not apply at Osborne. Queen V had them changed.

This is a common problem with waterside properties open to the public. Places where I have had trouble visiting by boat include the Gweek Seal Sanctuary & Plas Newydd on the Menai Straits. I'm sure there will be others.
Doesn't seem to be beyond the wit of man to sort out but they do seem to have very closed minds & focussed on car or chara bourne visitors.

Horse or Carriage is quite a sensible option on IoW and would be accomodated by the existing car/ coach arrangements I would think. However it isn't possible to prevent a Hot air baloon landing once the gas is out. Aeroplanes are not really practical are they - unless it's a flying rib. Do you have a sensible comment to make?

Yes. I wouldn't take a horse and carriage out on the IW roads they are more dangerous than the mainland ones. If you really want to visit, why not tie up at East Cowes Marina, take the 5 minute walk up the hill and go through the gate with all of the other visitors instead of expecting special treatment just because you've got a boat.Horse or Carriage is quite a sensible option on IoW and would be accomodated by the existing car/ coach arrangements I would think. sorry if this has been answered before either here or the other place but just how far out are these buoys? We're planning to pootle over to anchor on saturday and wondered if we'd have to settle further out than usual.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say the wrong thing......
But.......
They don't look that far from the shore to me. Fair enough they are stopping boaters from trying to land and spend money, but in all honesty I don't think they will stop us from anchoring in Osbourne bay.

Ahem.....your inflateable will be chased out back to your boat and you will be told off in no uncertain terms if you transgress.
Nobody bleats over there about it,all the complaints over here have echoes of the uber paranoid freedom fighters gun lobby in US,

The RYA have issued a press release this morning saying English Heritage have no power to restrict anchoring. They've also asked EH to stop heckling boats that venture inside the buoys.

Been following all these threads with intrest but not been able to work out how far the buoys are. Crystal clear now. Does seem further out then I expected, however as have only anchored in 'the bay twice in last 10 years I dont think it will affect me too much.....

The buoys pictured do look very similar to the one we laid on Sunday for a local sailing club as their waiting mooring, if so, the ground tackle should be substantial, as these buoys are rated at 350kgs, which means they can easily support 18 metres of inch chain, so why not use the buoys to moor off of rather than anchor, that way you won't encroach on their no go area
