Osborne boat club

I'll join if Aztec is keeping his, and subs are sensible, as for spares, all the ones I have
seen have had different engines and drives.

I'm up for it.

I called in at the Osborne yard last month. The chap answering the door said he was the chap who shut the operation down, that any details of boats could be obtained from a surveyor Richard somone who still rents an office in the yard, and suggested that an owners or enthusiasts club would be the way forward for finding out more about my boat - only there wasn't one. All in all - very helpful.

I couldn't make contact with the surveyor but will try to dig out his surname.

Regards, David

yes alright!!

had a bit of a tough time just lately.. but the evil bitch isn't getting my boat!

sorted the storage for her now, trailer, etc done... been down to her today just to pump out some bilge water.. not too much considering the time she's been there!

i don't care what happens... next month... she's coming out!!!

Is there anyone out there who could offer advice on the setting up of such a club or organisation?

No need to re-invent the wheel, so there should be some pretty generic articles and rules available.

A amall article released to the magazines would help drum up some support and membership.

A web site presence would be needed I guess, how to do this without breaking the bank?

I would be happy to do some research over the winter on the yard and the boats, but can't help with the web or legal stuff much.

It is a shame to see so much real and important history just disapearing without trace.

Regards, David

why do you need legal stuff,. Just set up a website or even just a forum, to keep documentation on history etc. Then meet up whenever you feel like it, just like we do on these forums

Brendan's right there is no need to worry about the complications. Just agree between you what needs to be done and do it.

You don't need rules at this stage, forget about legals, just decide if you need subscriptions. There's no need to send an article to the press about yourselves, just send them a note that you are setting up and see what happens. You can prepare a proper article later.

Unless someone wants to spend time on it you don't really need a website at the moment.......there's only a handful of you....but it would be good to have one if you get a bigger membership later.

Keep it simple and just get on with it. If you only end up with a few members then you haven't wasted a lot of time and effort but at least you've established contact with a few like minded people. Good luck!

Yep,

You and Brendan are right, KISS at this stage and get on with life. getting too far ahead of the game there wasn't I?

Ref. Arun Boat Yard, I wrote to Osborne at the adress on the manufacturers plate on my boat and received a reply from a Graham M Chatfield. This gent is a marine design consultant and the son of Mr R A Chatfield who was the companies naval architect.
He sent me a sales brochure for my Kingswift Mk1, and knew some history of my vessel because of its build no. He might be able to advise on other owners etc..
His company name, Arun Marine Design Ltd.

Hope this helps keep up the enthusiasm.

Hi Guys,
I have been away for the past nine days, so not been on the forum. I agree, for now lets just start a small club of Osborne owners. Unless theres anyone else who wants to start off, I will. Just names, contact address and telephone numbers with vessel details to pass onto the rest of group. No fees, lets see what happens. I can be contacted on 01825 890011 or 07954 886402. Keith
