Hello,
While cruising, place names are lined up according to the north direction, that is, when head up or course up is selected, it is difficult to read the place names because they are still aligned according to the north. How do I align the place names according to my cruising direction? Is there a way to align the place names with the direction I'm cruising?
Thanks.

My problem is not changing modes. The place names on the map, for example when going south, are upside down, not aligned. I want to see the place names correctly in course up mode, like in north up.

Just tried North Up ... Head Up ... Course Up on my Android Navionics Boating App ..... names changed to stay upright regardless of which mode ..

Don't know what you do with iPad / iPhone version ... but with Android I went to MENU ... MAP OPTIONS ... and chose the mode there... then back to map view ... no problem at all.

I don’t think you can change the text orientation so it always remains aligned to N even if N is not the top. I can see why it might be a minor irritation but I think it is probably a good thing - it’s an immediate visual clue which way N is on the chart, but also if the labels were moving as the boat wobbles around they would potentially be moving over important details (like rocks!).

Label placement is a well known problem in geographic information systems, and there has been much research into techniques to avoid these problems. I'd hope that plotter manufacturers would have taken that on board - there's no excuse for a label obscuring important information.

???? OP is asking to change from North orientated text ... which it should orientate itself to the mode selected so that text is correct way up to be read ...

From reading OP's post - his text does not re-orientate ..... ??

Apologies, should have read it more carefully

No worries .... to be honest judging by various posts - seems OP's question may not be as clear as first assumed !!

Having looked at his screen shot many times - I am completely confused as to why the text is not orientating .. its part of Vectors advantage that unlike raster - the layers of info can display as required.

I'm just wondering if OP has mode NORTH UP ..... but Phone Auto Rotate is switched off .. and he has phone upside down ... so that cursor arrow proceeds up screen in SOUTHERLY direction - but map is North Up displayed and has not rotated with his phone upside down ??

I cannot see any other reason for this ...

I’m aware of that I think I missed a comma or a colon from my reply.

And what im saying is that is how it behave on my iPhone and as far as I know there is no option to change it.

But it may be computationally simpler (at least in terms of lines of code if not processing intensity) to let iOS orient the “image” rather than do it on the fly and manage the extra complications with labels obscuring details etc.

No it does the same at say 45 or 90 deg (or any other angle too). I don’t have my Android tablet at home so can’t check it - but this isn’t a user error issue it’s the way the app is.

I cannot reproduce OP's problem on my Android based App, whatever orientation I choose - phone or maps - text is correct .... so maybe its another 'nail in the iOS coffin' ?? if that really is an iOS matter !

Just looked at mine, both iPad and iPhone, when changed from north up, which I use to head up and course up, the map rotates as it would if it was paper chart and all txt stays aligned with north as it would on a paper chart. As soon as I refresh it reverts to north up. As I would never use it other than north up don’t see an issue

Well I’m not sure it’s Apple’s fault how the developer has chosen to implement the code. I’m pretty sure I have an old Lowrance plotter at the chart table that does the same thing (in reality I only use it for the GPS feed to the radio or if everything else breaks). I don’t think it’s a huge issue - I can’t remember ever needing to read a name in a hurry.

So you are saying that if you go Course or Head Up ... the text on chart stays fixed on the chart .. ie if course is 180 and you are in Course Up mode .. text is upside down ?

I too generally view North Up ... but Course Up can be handy when in narrows / difficult location giving a direct left - right visual. Text is not usually a required - but there are odd text markers that can be important to note ...

I've just played with phone again and interesting ....

In all modes .. North - Course / Head Up ... with phone upright .. all text upright ... turn phone 90 degrees and map rotates - text still upright. Turn phone 180 degrees and map fails to rotate staying as last orientation - meaning text is now vertical not horizontal. BUT on my tablet - it auto rotates through all .. upright, left 90 deg, right 90 deg .. 180 deg ... with map / text displaying correctly regardless of which way up tablet isI have made a short video of this on my phone and Tablet ....
