We decided to have a little trip out to Orford in Suffolk on new years day

Was not lucky enough to meet Mr Happy though :ROFLMAO:

We do actually carry aerial pics of the Deben and Ore entrances on our website, downloadable with the entrance chartlets, new pics taken each spring and updated during the summer if we get the chance..................

Nice one, I like orford, any chance of an early spring at orford bar to compliment the deben this year BP?

Yes I intend to do that early Spring. It is quite a walk from the Car Park to the entrance but I will get that done when the tides and Sun is right. I was going to do it yesterday but it was so muddy to walk and low water was 16.10 hrs ish so would have been too dark me thinks for the video

I am sure you know it is not possible to walk along the river bank to Shingle Street, the mouth of the Ore.
It must be over four miles by water, do you let your flying-eye go that far? Curious.
Its a hell of a hike around the roads as this Google map shows: Shingle Street, Woodbridge IP12 3BE to Orford Castle - Google Maps

Enjoy these videos btw. For any visitors to the local area, inc. my home town of Aldeburgh, I will point out that all the local walking
routes are a quagmire of mud. There are hordes of people here today and some paths are almost like a queue. Not exactly
conducive to a gentle seaside stroll. Still I ventured forth myself but best to arrive early for a better experience.

I know it was one heck of a walk. My flying eye can reach quite far but not that far. If I do it by Boat that would be fine but I would have to wait a while to get back into Felixstowe over the Bar. Interesting challenge

Shingle Street itself can only accommodate about a dozen cars. The local residents have dug trenches alongside the local roadway to discourage mass visitors parking fairly irresponsibly. Its all an unfortunate result of the pandemic in my opinion. People flocking to remote and well-known areas. ( not a political but a societal observation). :D

I mention this in regard to timings. I imagine that eventually people will get back to their normal routine and work and you will get the place to yourself. It is so valuable to catch an overhead view of the area and eastcoastpilot deserves untold praise for their work on this.

I have been in and out of there countless times on my own and occasionally racing people who are walking along the river bank!
Its an exhilarating ride after a gentle relaxing night up the Butley Creek.

Yes I understand where you are coming from. I have been criticised recently for publicising these places because people might 'flock' there. I can understand this view but then isn't our country for all, Particularly at the moment. I have reached the age where I am sort of retired/can please myself when I go places so hopefully I can find a quiet time

There are countless TV programmes now covering various parts of the country that are inevitably contributing to increased tourism, particularly as foreign travel is more difficult. I agree that our country is for all but frankly I prefer seeing it when there aren’t many people about. I grew up in the Peak District and did a lot of walking at a time when it wasn’t popular in the way it is today and the crowds that now occupy the popular spots are a reason to stay away to my mind.

I'm well aware of the ECP chartlets and piccies and have the book and print them every season (and thank you very much BTW) but sometimes to see video from different angles is very interesting to see and gives a different perspective.
I'm an avid fan of both ECP and CTTE, the east coast would be such a poorer place without either.
