The new 601can 'plot' (or rather send to a plotter), the origin of a DSC call - a rather cute feature. Might it in due course pick up the AIS data as well, as this transmitted on VHF as well.

Yes, this is all very much the point of AIS. AIS can display the position of a target plus a range of useful information, including rate of turn, dimensions, call signs etc, on a suitable radar screen and on PC based chart plotters. I don't have information that it will work on dedicated plotters though I can't see why not.

What I was really getting at is that 90% of an AIS receiver is already 'in' the 601 - wouldnt it be nice to have the other 10%, and not have another box, and aerial.
