One for johnalison perhaps

Have you trapped it’s tail in a port light?
I'm not sure I'm with you there. In my photo the bird is under our windscreen on a very hot day. Its tail was quite free. I'm not even sure what it is. Willow tit seems the nearest in my book but marsh tit is very similar.

I lived for a few years on a Dutch Sea Barge afloat in West London. A pair of Greylags used to nest each year on the sterncastle, the joy of this was tempered less by the mess, but by the attacks on any male human residents or guests coming aboard. The Gander had excellent timing and would swoop just as you were reaching across to climb aboard, when you were most vulnerable. It was a miracle no one took a swim. When the goslings hatched they ate our entire garden in a couple of weeks before they found their way to the water. I have no idea how they got down.
