On Board Electric Drill

I have a 12 v makita drill. It was a good quality unit, but the charger died and replacement of the charger as a standalone unit was more than cost of a whole new kit. Bar stewards.
I also had a vacuum cleaner with retractable cord that died.
Cord from vacuum cleaner is flexible and light 2 core flex. I used this soldered to drill at one end and cigarette lighter plug at other.
Reaches anywhere on the boat. I suspect that the voltage drop in the wire is dropping the performance of the drill, but it does what i need it to do.
Sometimes extremely useful.
Battery(less) drills are also available from local recycling centre for a couple of dollars each here. If only i could think of a use for them..

I have always found that any bar or restaurant we frequent is willing to recharge a phone or other appliance whilst running up a bar tab. Try it!

I have on old 14.4v (bought at a French hypermarket for 200ff years ago) drill with a long cable wired to it and a cigarette lighter plug on the end.
Works very well - not that fast, but this has never caused me a problem.

My only advice is keep the dead batter in the base, otherwise the balance of the drill in your hand is wrong.
