The local anode is right there in the pic - brass hexagon at side of heat exchanger. Is there any zinc left?Is this lack of bonding/anodes ?

Looks to me like you have a weeping leak from the end cap of the heat/ex, and due to the warmth in there the leaked water dries off leaving a pile of salt. No big deal. Easy to fix by cleaning or changing the gasket for the end cap
If that's correct then you do not have a bonding problem.
Further investigation. Revealed some blue furriness on a temp switch on the exhaust too. Ran out of time so will take the plug out and see if any anode left but I suspect not.

Last service was when it was in Spain and I do my own , did both engines etc at start of season and I have only just got round to generator after having the boat a year. I checked oil and it was clear when I bought the boat so wrongly assumed that everything else would be hunkydori to get me through last season. We live and learn !+1
Looks like a case of a quiet word in the ear of the last guy to service it may be needed.
I would say that this is a result of a leak from the hose going upwards, the hose is not a oridgnal Onan item so I would guess you have a anti siphon valve fitted?
PM me if you want a replacement heat exchanger, as I have some removed from new generators.
