Old AIS engine to garmin 451

Wired it in yesterday but no targets aroiund so could'nt test. I connected the blue wire from the AIS to the Violet wire on the garmin. Is that all I need to do to get the nmea feeds?

Our Garmin 555s needed two wires from the AIS to the Garmin to receive the signal, I think you need to find the other wire. From emory Garmin label them +/- and the AIS had in/out which wasn't very helpful. However, once they were wired up the right way round it all worked.
