OK then, I get the point.

So now I can't...

a) Wear a Blue Ensign, cos that makes me a snob who is bringing the country down and being laughed at by everybody. (<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=ym&Number=552009&page=&view=&sb=&o=&part=1&vc=1>Confused? you will be...</A>)
b) Sail in Southampton Water, cos its a channel, or a collection of channels, and I might need to tack.
c) Get married... If I carry on sailing, its doomed
d) Sail in The Solent, cos its too busy, and real sailors are always offshore.
e) Use a chart plotter, as they should only be used as a reference, and are no substitution for proper navigation. (If anybody has ever managed to take a collection of bearings, on a busy Saturday, in the Solent, with a gusty sea breeze, i an 8.5m "sports-boat" while steering, trimming etc etc, please let me know..)
f) Get on a boat... I don't have a YM ticket.
g) Get on a boat.... I don't wear a lifejacket all the time
h) Drink anything alchoholic near or on a boat... plainly irresponsible.
i) Cruise in Neraida.. "She's a racing boat"
j) Eat anything that isnt brown.
k) Smoke outside (Outside is a public place is it not?)
etc
etc
etc
etc

I'm sure i've missed loads... let me know please chaps and chapesseseses

It makes our chosen pastime sound awful- I'd like to think that in our own little ways, we all extract a tiny amount of enjoyment out of our sailing, in between hating all and complaining about everything. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Do all of this, and more!!!!

Should we go to the court of human rights? I believe that these rights are being violated by all this namby-pamby PC rubbish!

I have the right of freedom to be totally irresponsible and a complete prat - if I really want to, that is!

Don't be disheartened. If you listened to some of the people on this forum you'd think ours is a punishment, not a passion.

Go out there, smoke, tack, eat junk food, leave your lifejacket off, get married, wear your ensign with pride & sod the lot of 'em.

My motto is "Get on with your short life"...

Sounds as if you ought to consider emigrating to the West Country - but please do not bring too many people with you......

Well done!

Its taken a long time, Neraida, but we're pleased to announce that you have finally passed your "Competent Scuttlebutter" (Theory) examination.

A signed certificate from Kim will doubtless be winging its way.
