Morning all.
Went down to the Boat Fri night and was awoken Sat morning by a huge great noisy yellow ferry.
Came and went all day and turned the marina into a Bus stop!
Is this permanent or a winter thing?
Went for a spin in the rib, was the only one out except two jet skiers and some swans, must get some goggles.

Phil, Yeah i noticed that appeared before we lifted our boat out. I think it goes to Ryde?

Funny that has appeared just as the Challenger lot left. Also those yellow ones went from Portsmouth to Ryde, and the Challenger yachts have moved to Portsmouth and I think they are moored where the yellow ferry's are moored.

So we now have ferry's, building work and the price has gone up 11%. Maybe we should be kicked in the nads on a daily basis as well.... /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Yup.. As a resident of OV, its getting to be a pain in the bum. The "Wight Link" crowd are in some kind of war against Red Funnel. It is also a nifty way of MDL to make yet more £££'s. As I understand it, the Wightlink will stop in the spring (it was supposed to have stopped in December), more berths will be squeezed into the existing spaces (provided they get planning) and the Challenge yachts MIGHT come back..

The building work (dont get me started on the "planning", I would probably end up in court for Liabel) is going to pause shortly while all the flats in the existing buildings are sold, to raise money to build the others (the biggest is yet to be built).

Hey Ho, nevermind eh???

All I want is the Wightlink guys to let us know when they are going astern and leaving like the Ocean Scene and Wight Scene do....

Another huge concern I have, once all these flats are sold, what will happen to our parking?? I think it is going to be entertaining. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

So tell us about the planning...... /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Oh, there'll be no problems with parking, afterall the spaces under the new buildings are only £20k each... that will encorage people (who pay, on average, £300k for a flat) to use public transport!!!

How silly of you to worry about that!

Planning...

(^(^*(%*$%*%^(^()&^(%^("%£&*(^( ()*^*() (* ( ^"() ^"(*)^(*"^)&^() %^(*&^0&^ 90 %"*(& %("%* &% &*( "*(&%"(&%^*(^ ()*^"( "*() (&"^ 9"%^(&% "*(&%^ "*( "9& %....

Funny how none of the "Spectators" for the QM2 got clamped recently over by our small Car Park isn't it too?? You try leaving yours on the road 'cos berth holders car park is full of the residents and their relations cars, and see how long it takes you to get clamped, even with your permit on display. About 20mins was my experience and £90 to get it taken off! Berth Holders Permit obviously reads, "They can afford it!"
Rubbish near H pontoons getting seriously bad in summer, and the sign asking us to take the rubbish best part of half a mile up the road rather than replace old Skip, and so that you can then walk half a mile back to your car, (whilst you're waiting for the clampers to release) just doesn't seem to be working somehow.
Intend to bring up with whom ever at LBS if poss.
Is there a Berth Holders group at OV, if not should there be??

Parking at OV is not good - we are on the RSYC side and during the summer you can see that 1/3 of the cars do not have a permit. Perhaps MDL should send the clampers round our side!

I don't think the flats will make much difference from the residents - it will be their guests and patrons of the restaurants that will fill up our places.

We're residents entitled to park in the shared car park, and berth holders. Throughout the last summer we were nearly always stuck for a space. Mostly due to berth holders parking more than one car and also residents from other parts of OV. MDL were going to sort out secure entry but were reluctant due to lack of support. They have now started clamping in the Northern Berth holders car parks as signage has been put in place.

I agree with you also about the new builds and their restaurants..... Down to planning I'm afraid.

Markc,

Nice pics of your boat, I have looked at it many times when walking back from Tesco.

Do you get any trouble being moored up there from kids walking so near it? We purposely got moored further away from the path to avoid having stones and things thrown at our boat.

Mind you with a boat your size I guess your choices are limited? /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

I hope parking does not become a major issue, I really do....

Sorry we missed you, we're not down this week either, LBS beckons.
Generally find OV brilliant, just that there seems to be an awful lot of grey areas and "agreements" that nobody seems to know about apart from those taking advantage of so called "agreements". Even found a guy with a large drop side truck literally filling up the skips by the Northside facilities the other day, from a catering company, who again had an "agreement". None of the Harbour Masters knew a damn thing about it and truly felt there was little they could do, as he may well have an "agreement". In the absence of any other explanation one can only imagine that the cost of emptying etc goes onto our increased Mooring charges though.
Anyway, love the place and the people, theyv'e got a waiting list so what can you do??
Regards, Paul

Ok, I think I should make a few comments at this stage in order to put minds at rest!

With the new development coming on line at Ocean Village, it is of paramount importance we protect the marina car parking spaces from being abused. All berth holders are provided with two annual passes that allow them to park anywhere within the Ocean Village estate. We have three dedicated ‘marina’ car parks located around the marina. Due to improper use of these spaces, it is necessary to police these areas and wheel clamping is regrettably the only option available to deal with vehicles not displaying passes. We are constantly reviewing the situation and in time may have to fit barriers to the north car park as well. However, this in itself raises more questions than it answers as access must remain available for RSYC members and residents of the marina related properties. We do welcome direct feedback on this.

The recent 'Wight link' ferry service that has been running out of the marina was a local service from Ryde to Southampton. It was a ‘one off’ seasonal service to help promote the use of the 'West Quay' shopping center for the early January sales. The last working weekend was 3rd/4th Jan 04.

Despite the recent redevelopment which is nearing completion, Ocean Village Marina still boasts numerous benefits. It is a very sheltered, deep-water marina that has easy access from the land in terms of road, rail and air links. The year on year annual berthing price increase is not the 11% stated above but is in fact 3% for 2004/05. Ocean Village offers a huge amount for a city centre marina and we believe offers value for money as well. I am happy to answer further queries or concerns over the above.

Oh, I should add, we don’t want to clamp cars unless we really have to. I know what it is like having just been 'clamped' in Bournemouth. Did'nt see the sign and it cost me £90 in release fees…

Many thanks Jon and also many thanks to Bill who I spoke to earlier today at Ocean Village Marina office. He is a very helpful chap. It turned out to be an error in our invoice which explains the 11% increase.

Jon,
Great to hear from you re this. Are you at LBS this weekend? I would love to meet you, I can't rate OV and its staff highly enough but there are some issues, outside their control possibly, as Berth Holders that I really would like the opportunity of talking to you about.
