Hello - anyone have any idea how sheltered Ocean Village is/will be in the forthcoming storm? Trying to decide whether I need to cancel all plans and drive down to OV...... Generally it's pretty sheltered, but Windy is forecasting F12.....

What are you thinking you would do? Hopefully the OV staff themselves will be doing the rounds and checking lines etc.

In my experience it is pretty well sheltered from the wind. I have however suffered damage there in a storm - I guess it was caused by swell coming into the basin - ripped out a fairlead.

Yes that's what I was thinking in terms of the shelter provided by the tall buildings. In terms of what I would actually do......make sure sufficient fenders and any extra lines. But as you say, hopefully OV will be doing that....

I'm in the "platinum" bit - near the hotel, so am hoping there will be less swell making its way into that bit.

I'm on the hard at the moment at Shamrock quay. Supported by a couple of bits of angled logs and wooden wedges. ????
Yikes - I was in the same position until this week. Although not sure what's better - to be out of the water or in it!

Very worrying. I'm at OV.
Doesn't give me confidence in the staff. Nothing was done last weekend after twice reporting damage to a neighbouring boat. And was no where near as windy as its going to be tomorrow.

Ugh. I was kind of hoping they would make sure all the boats are safe. I’ll try calling….

Me too. At Swanwick. Yacht parked to one side still has sails bent on. Should have been be removed. One possible benefit is that all the boats are parked facing into the prevailing winds. So I’m hoping we’ll be ok but I’m going to be driving down on Saturday to check it out if I need to.

I called OV. They said they’re checking lines (doubling up where necessary) and fenders. So that’s reassuring!

At Haslar we have a number on board residents or those staying down afloat on our pontoon keeping an eye on lines although this morning the most interest was generated by a fox taking his stroll around the boats. The staff at Haslar are also generally good at being out on the pontoons when it’s windy . Just hope no one is still on a buoy in chi harbour though .

And us. Went and checked the boat today and realised that if the wind is as forecast it will go straight across the yard and hit the boat almost side on. The two stands each side holding her up look a little puny now! The boat next to us has gone leaving us exposed but I suppose if the rest go over like dominos we are clear. I think I would rather she was in the water - a torn cleat is fixable but being blown over on the hard is potentially terminal.
.

It’s a long time since I went to ocean village but I recall correctly the buildings would create wind amplification including violent vortexes highly likely ( wind is forced to go twice the distance as it twists up similar to a tornado)

It's surrounded by tall buildings for the most part so It'll be pretty sheltered.

i wouldn’t expect the buildings to offer shelter in the basin, I would expect the opposite.
