NW Chapter

Currently anchored in Aberdaron Bay, beautifully sheltered and calm at the moment. Set off from Pwllheli a day later than planned due to an unscheduled starter motor rebuild.
Well set off towards PD tomorrow morning at first light. Any advice for Bardsey Sound and whether 7am will be an ok time to transit or are we better going the long way?

The Bardsey Sound passage is very tide critical. Don't try & fight it! You also need to cross the Caernarfon bar on the Flood. I would leave at LW (or an hour before) and aim to carry the tide practically all the way.

See the thread at http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249038&highlight=Bardsey for a discussion of Bardsey tides. Think slack water not LW, they do not correspond! I see you are at Aberdaron waiting to go through. I use a simple rule. For slack water passage east to west passage use data for GMT LW Liverpool. So for Sat am its 11.49. You should carry the tide all the way to Holyhead or over Caernarfon bar.

Your estimate and mine are only 20 mins apart which is acceptable. Most tidal prediction sources agree within a few minutes but different "rules of thumb" to estimate slack differ by at least 20-30 mins

Hope you had the fenders out then! :D

The sailing club was having a try a sail day and there were loads of novices slaloming through the moorings. But I only put the fenders out when I saw Phil and Kwackers were out training:D
