Sea Gypsie strikes again :)

We taught him well.

Tom

Hope the nice new steps and guard rail are still there.

If not the fall back plan comes into action. I will have to us the dock crane to get Beverley on board after a night out.:D:D

Reverse Kilter Trip Passage plan advice please.

Ok you NW chapter experts.

I am planning a very early Poets day on Friday.Leave work 12 noon on the boat by 13.30 lunch and ready for a trip to Conway leaving PD about 2.45.
Tide under us through Swellies (slack about 3.45) over the banks about 4.00 and through the swatch way(high tide at 5.00 at Beaumaris).

Get to Conway just before high water at 17.20 if I can average 5 knots.........

Max Hull speed is 5.5 but this drops to 4.5 with a headwind:eek:

Red Wharf Bay windguru showing light NNWesterlies friday with a forecast 4-5 NE to come back with on Sunday.

It is neaps so how much ebb at Conway am I likely to get in the first hour after HW if I run late? How hard does the tide run from Conway by the hour + or - HW?

Phil its the joys of small boat sailing without the benefit of a big DONK.:D

Whats the chance of everything staying to plan?

Plan B stay in PD and finish off the 24 year Malt....:) If its still there:eek:

I will check out if the Malt is still there later;)
The chance of everything staying to plan is zero!!!
Swellies timing is more important on the return trip than the river at Conwy
Work it out exactly later:)

Sounds like a plan!
We went across the swatch last weekend at 10:00 (HW Beaumaris 12:30) still had 2.7 metres under the keel (3.7 metres altogether)

Right then so you had 3.7 metres 2 hrs before high on an 8.2m tide

So very roughly that gives me 1.8 on a 6.3m tide 2 hours before High

We draw 1.7 not much allowance for swell until I hit the lift button:)

Looks like anytime 1.5 hr either side of high will be safe then:cool:

Beverley is going to be making more noise than the echo sounder alarm :)

Plan C

"The chance of everything staying to plan is zero!!!"

Cheers mate plan B sounds even better:D

"Swellies timing is more important on the return trip than the river at Conwy

Not worried about doing it in one tide.Plan to take the ebb from Conway and do the evening HW slack through Swellies.

Might have to have a long pit stop at Glyn Garth or Menai Pier or both;)

Not surprising you lot have a reputation as your always within reach of a decent pub here. Not like Pulleywilly is it!

If I come through at low water slack I am still going to have to hang around waiting for lock to open. Oh but I could beach it by the Gardd Fon!

Now thats a definite plan C:D

Well - tomorrow's the lift in day :D
The plan is...lifted in at Pwllheli "late morning", gentle cruise around the peninsula and either anchor in Aberdaron overnight, or go round to Porth Dinllaen and anchor there for the first night depending on the weather. Second day we'll be off to our new swinging mooring in the Straits at Felinheli.

Might do some sight seeing on the way, we don't need to be in Felinheli until Sunday so is it worth taking a trip up the West coast of Anglesey?

Anything to watch out for? Is the Caernarfon Bar anything to worry about?

Just a bigger fun box will do! :D

Bigger larder for Kilter needed
She is out!
So are 1.5 tons of mussels:eek:
No wonder the prop was reluctant to revolve
Hull looks in fine fettle
But the dauntless chaps who unlocked the bi valves from the hull , look decidedly knackered!!!
A little bird told me that photographs have been taken!;)

DONT DO PORTH DINLLAEN IF THERE IS ANY NORTHERLY IF YOU WANT ANY SLEEP:)

Bar marks are as per Caernarfon trust download no worries try to get a lift in with the flood tide will take you all the way to PD then.

http://www.caernarfonharbour.co.uk/

Light northerlies forecast so Rhoscolyn, Treaddur, Silver Bay, Pen y parc and LLandwyn all offer good anchorages
Watch out for mermaids though

Yes, don't forget the depth sounder was reading 3.7 from waterline over the green bits (1.7 above CD) so about 5.4 metres of tide 2 hrs 30 min before 12:30 HW.

The NWVYC pilot Book says 1-2hrs either side of Beaumaris HW, my tidal graph said I could go 3 hours before with my draft so went in the middle 2:30hrs before and was fine.

I love it when a plan works out :D

Current runs fast in Conway, esp on the ebb, but neaps are not that bad unless thare has been an awful lot of rain. Look to work around the edges to keep out of the current, there are eddies you can use. Great place to practice ferry glides - sailing sideways can be a bit of a lark.

Leaving Conway on the ebb with a strong Northerly is damned unpleasant from the Beacon to Puffin, but the Straits gives good shelter.

Caernarfon Bar is only really a problem with SW5+ over the ebb, but the current at half tide thro the Belan Narrows can be interesting if against you, but it is pretty deep very close to the fort & you can take advantage of slacker water & eddies there.

Well you're not likely to see us when there's work to be done are you now! James is getting quite handy at making a mess of a funbox ;)
