Some on here will have you believe sailing is a dark art only a true ‘wizard of the wind’ can accomplish. As you’re not planning on winning any yacht races it’s really not that hard to get your new boat from point A to B in moderate conditions in daylight. A working knowledge of the rules of the road is essential, although you’d be forgiven for thinking about 50% of those you’ll encounter think it’s optional.
Have fun with it and when you can do the above as naturally as say driving a car, take it out in a bit more wind or in the dark. There’s a lot of ‘30 years of experience’ sailors around that have only been to the same local destination 30 times on nice days. Ramp it up gradually and all will be well.
Hoping your Conway adventures are going well - as someone who's looking to buy something similar (Conway/W33/Pentland) in the next year or so how are you finding things/living aboard?
Hi Marceline
Not living aboard yet. It will be some time before I do..
Limited time on the boat so far, although will be there for a long weekend next week.. we are hoping to take it out for a sail for a few hours..
With work and life, I won't be living aboard for a while.. I have to sort out some other aspects of my life.. But I intend to spend what time I can aboard over the next year or so.. (mainly long weekends).
ah well cheers for the reply and hoping it all goes well in the months/years ahead with 'Life things' etc and hoping you have a great time out on the water in the coming weekend and some fabulous sailing over the next year or so
I thought I should do a little update, seeming as it's been a while...
Lots been going on. Only managed one day sail unfortunately.. Due to all the usual reasons.. Time, weather, crew, work...
Made some small improvements (interior) to her.. cleaned out the locker (had more rope than a rope shop in there)
I have spent quite a lot of weekends at the boat.. I feel so at home on her now, feels like she has welcomed me in..
Anyway.. The works site shut for Xmas and new year, was at a loose end, A new sailing friend suggested I look at doing my crew comp..
So...
Currently sat on a Bavaria 37 awaiting my fellow trainees, for a week's crew comp in Lanzarote...
Had Xmas week in an apartment, which made a nice break from it all.
Been super sailing weather the last week and hoping new year week will be just as good..
