I would like to use Novatech / Novatop on my solid pine mast now I have stripped all the varnish off. There doesn't seem to be a "natural" colour but there is "pine". Has anyone else tried this? I want it to look similar to varnish if possible.

I have used Cetol Filter 7 in the past. It comes in a light pine or similar which is fairly pale. But, at the end of the day, it is light brown paint and not varnish so shouldn't be compared - though some do!

Welcome to the forum. I did my Douglas Fir mast with it 6 years ago after I had used it on other "brightwork" on the boat. Absolutely brilliant. Took the mast out last year (after 5 years). completely intact and just needed a clean, light rub down and one new Novatop coat. I used the pine pigment and it does darken the wood and it does not "shine" but I forgive that because it looks great overall and lasts better than anything else I have used on the same mast over now 30 seasons!

I've just removed the Novatech on my pine mast, (Very soft & easy to remove, just didn't like the colour which was too dark. Very stable coating though that took little or no maintainence). Redone in Sikkens Cetol HLS Plus (pine) and then 3 coats of Cetol Filter 7 (pine), this done to match the boom & yard which I did last year. Looks really good!

Might try that on my boom which needs redoing, although it does not get the wear and exposure the mast does
