UKHO Permanent/Temporary/Preliminary Notices

1. ENGLAND - East Coast - NM Blocks. -
This notice provides 7 new UKHO blocks generally centred around the Lynn Knock area in the Wash. The blocks are variously for 3 SN charts and 4 SC charts.
2. ENGLAND - Thames Estuary - NM Blocks. Depths. - Six reductions of depth on the (NE) head of the Gunfleet Sands. The image includes 4 additional reduced depths in the area and one wreck and one obstn by virtue of earliers NtMs Nos 2019, 2559 and 3530. The notice also include new block for the same area for SN chart 1975 and SC chart 5607.4. The blocks illustrate the extended shallow area of the head of the Sands.

Local

1. River Thames - Lower Pool - Tower Driftwood PLA Moorings -
the Tower Driftwood (PLA) Moorings in the vicinity of Downing’s Roads as depicted on the chartlet (see address below) are currently not clearly visible, especially around high water. Mariners navigating in the vicinity of these moorings are advised to maintain a sharp lookout and pass well clear.
2. Harwich Haven - Temporary Deployment of Scientific Instruments – Update 2 - The scientific equipment (ADCP) and special mark buoys previously deployed at Site 2 NE of Wadgate Ledge have now been recovered and are no longer in situ.
3. River Stour & Harwich Haven Weather Stations – Update 1 - Harwich Haven Authority is making the following changes to the local live weather stations (data published on www.hha.co.uk - Live Data | Weather, Tide, Sailing information - Harwich, Felixstowe, Ipswich | Harwich Haven Authority). Sensor No. 4 - located at Landguard - will be offline on 25 and 26 June 2024 for essential maintenance work and the height will be adjusted to 11m above ground level / 15m above chart datum.
Sensor No. 2 - located on Ganges Pier at Shotley Gate - will now be retired on 27 June 2024, having been successfully replaced by new Sensor No.7 at Erwarton Beacon. Additionally, in the week commencing 1 July 2024, the Harwich wind gauge on Navigation House
will be relocated from the roof of the building to the knuckle of the Harbour Master’s Pier. This is to avoid building updraft effects and improve the reading quality.
4. Chatham Docks – North Lock - Outer Wall, North Side - Repairs - repair work to the outer wall of the Chatham North Lock approach is due to commence. Work to repair and fortify the stonework on the northern section of the outer wall at Chatham north lock will start on or around 23rd July 2024 with completion expected within 2 – 3 weeks. As part of the work programme, a scaffold framework will be erected along the affected section of wall which will protrude approximately 1m out from the edge and down the side towards the water.
All craft passing the worksite should be aware that works staff will be working close to the water, all vessels navigating in the vicinity of Chatham Docks should do so with caution and reduce speed/wash accordingly. 5. River Medway – Upnor Reach. Royal Engineers Jetty Works - work to construct a new jetty at the Royal Engineers Boat School will be commencing shortly. The programme of work will involve piling, construction of a new jetty and installation of a new pontoon which will be located to the south of the existing structure. Once complete, the current jetty will be decommissioned and removed. Work is due to commence on or around 1st August 2024 with completion expected approximately six months later. The crane barge JML50 will be towed to Upnor 30th July 2024 and will be on site for the duration of the work. Please see diagrams below which show the location and design of the planned jetty replacement. All craft passing the Royal Engineers jetty at Upnor should do so with caution, reducing their speed and wash accordingly.

6. PORT OF GREAT YARMOUTH - Bathymetric Survey Works – Herring Bridge - Norfolk County Council will be carrying out Bathymetric Surveying as part of the ongoing monitoring of the Third River Crossing ‘Herring Bridge’. The vessel ‘Investigator’ will be mobilising on site on Monday 29th July with the survey works being carried out on Tuesday 30th July. The survey work area will extend 200 metres North and South of the Herring Bridge. Due caution should be exercised when in transit past this location including observance to maintaining safe distance. SV INVESTIGATOR can be contacted on VHF Ch12.
7. Approaches to King’s Lynn - Collapse of Beacon B - Beacon B (52° 49’.090N 000°21’.136E) has been severely damaged following collision by a fishing boat and is currently unlit. The area to the West of above position is to be considered as foul ground. Works to remove the beacon and establishment of a temporary buoy or beacon will be progressed and further NtMs will be issued as required. UPDATE -
Establishment of Light Buoy “B”. -
a new Light Buoy has been established on 23.07.24 in the following position. 52° 49.080’ N 00° 21.130’ E. The buoy will be yellow special mark buoy, designation “B”, with flash character of Fl Y 2s. Please note that this position is approx. 20m to the south of the remains of beacon “B” base and the buoy will provide a visual indication of the foul ground area centred on: 52° 49.090’ N 00° 21.136’ E. NtM 18/2024 refers, and is now cancelled. Please contact the Harbour Office for further information.
8. Port of Wisbech - The Wash Ports – River Nene - Admiralty Chart 1200, Imray Y9 - Bathymetric survey at 4 locations on River Nene will be taking place on Monday 29th July 2024 to Monday 5th August 2024
Areas for survey:
1. Cross keys bridge – 500m either side of bridge.
2. The slow turn of the river at Foul Anchor-approx-1km covering bend.
3. The slow turn of the river at sewage works which is some 1-km ENE of west walton-approx 1km of bend.
4. The turning basin Wisbech approx-200m long,90m wide at widest point.
Mariners are advised to pass the survey vessel at minimum speed. Also keep a listening watch on vhf channel 09 and channel 16
