1. New Editions of ADMIRALTY Charts to be published on 30th May, 2024 -
Chart 1543 England - East Coast, Winterton Ness to Orford Ness. 1:75,000 - Includes changes to depths from the latest British Government and Trinity House surveys.
2. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - One reduction of depth just inside the channel of the Princes Channel between Princes No 5 and No7. Unlikely to hinder leisure craft.
3. NORTH SEA - Netherlands Sector - Restricted area. -
Last week, NtM 2008 announced a family of four cardinal buoys (one each) marking the site of the ‘soon to come’ Princess Elisabeth Island west of the Westhinder bank. This notice announces the area marked by the buoys are now ‘entry prohibited. New image.
4. NETHERLANDS - Buoyage. - Light characteristics are added to two previous unlit buoys in the heavily marked channel from Slijkgat to Stellendam.

Local
1. RIVER THAMES, Northfleet Hope - Tilbury Lock Entrance Dredging -
on or about 07th May 2024, contractors instructed by the Port of Tilbury London Ltd. will commence dredging operations for Tilbury Lock Entrance. The general location of the works is indicated by the red box on the chartlet. These dredging operations will be carried out by vessel BORR using the water injection dredging method and will be conducted during ebb tides only. The dredging is expected to be complete within 7 days of commencement. Requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed will be made in accordance with the procedures set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, ‘Section 4’ with the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee’ displayed. The display of these signals will be in addition to any lights or shapes required under local regulations and the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.
Further details will be broadcast as appropriate by London VTS on VHF channel 68.
2. Harwich Haven - usual weekly update - Dredging Operations – Update 5 - dredging operations are taking place as follows:
➢ Maverick - on or around 22 April 2024 will commence water injection dredging operations in the areas listed below for approx. 2 weeks.
• Ha’penny Pier
• Harbour Master’s Pier
• Fishermen’s moorings
• River Stour
➢ MTS Valour (IMO: 9407299) - on or around 22 April 2024 will commence plough dredging around Harwich Harbour and Felixstowe berths for approx. 4 - 5 weeks.
➢ Dredger Freeway (IMO:9691682) - on or around 1 May 2024 will commence trailing suction hopper dredging operations in Harwich Harbour and the Felixstowe berths for approx. 2-3 weeks
Additionally launch Aramis will be carrying out survey work around Harwich Harbour and Felixstowe berths from 22 April 2024 for approx. 6 weeks. For more information contact Harwich VTS on VHF Channel 71.
3. River Stour Weather Station Changes - Harwich Haven Authority is making the following changes to the local live weather stations (data published on www.hha.co.uk - Live Data | Weather, Tide, Sailing information - Harwich, Felixstowe, Ipswich | Harwich Haven Authority). Sensor No. 2, located on Ganges Pier at Shotley, will be retired on or around 26 June 2024. This is replaced by new Sensor No. 7, located at Erwarton Beacon (South Cardinal), which is already live and running concurrently with the out-going sensor to allow for a comparison and
change-over period.
4. Latest Survey Depths - River Stour Channel - the latest hydrographic survey (30 April 2024) for the River Stour has identified a minimum depth of 0.6m below chart datum. See survey chart extracts using the download button on the webpage desribed below. This notice replaces 19-2024 Depth in River Stour which is now withdrawn.
5. Sheerness Harbour – No.4 Berth - Bore Hole Drilling Operations - UPDATE - the Skylift 2 barge will shortly be moved into position in order to complete the 3 bore hole drills highlighted by the red circles in the chart below. Skylift is expected to be moved on or around 7th May 2024 to commence work on these locations. Once in position the barge will be “spudded down” and left on site whilst each individual bore hole is completed, each location will take approx. 2-3 days to complete. The barge will be unmanned overnight but will be illuminated with deck working lights making it conspicuous, however, due to it’s exposed position, all vessels are requested to pass Sheerness No.4 berth with caution reducing their speed and wash accordingly. The bore hole drilling operations will be taking place in Sheerness Harbour. The drilling works was due to commence on or around 17th April 2024 with completion expected within 2 – 3 weeks. Work will be conducted from the “Skylift 2” crane barge which will be accompanied by the tug “Pullmor” and safety boat WSB RECOVERY and/or WSB RESPOND. Whilst on site, the works will team will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 74 at all times. 5 no. bore holes will be drilled in the approximate locations marked on the image below, whilst in position and working, all passing vessels are required to navigate with caution and adhere to navigational safety requests as specified by Medway VTS.
6. Approaches to Sheerness - SS Richard Montgomery Wreck – Hydrographic Survey Work - survey work is due to take place around the wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery, The SS Richard Montgomery is a designated dangerous wreck under section 2 of the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973 and there is a no-entry exclusion zone around the wreck, the co-ordinates of which are published in Statutory Instrument 1973 No 1690. Section 3 of the Act makes entry into the prohibited area an offence without the written permission of the Secretary of State. Survey works will take place between 8th May 2024 and 14th May 2024, permission has been granted for Clinton Marine Survey AB to enter the prohibited area for the purposes of carrying out a multibeam sonar survey of the wreck and the immediate area of seabed surrounding the wreck. The survey vessel “LODE” will be carrying out the work and may be restricted in it’s ability to manoeuvre whilst operating. “LODE” will maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch.74 at all times, all vessels are requested to pass with caution and reduce speed and wash appropriately. 7. River Medway - Saltpan Reach - BP Isle of Grain No.1 Jetty - Dredging Operations - dredging operations are due to take place at BP Isle of Grain Jetty No.1, dredging will commence on or around 17/05/2024 and is expected to be completed by 19/05/2024. Operations will be focussed around the berthing box of the jetty and will be carried out by the water injection dredger ‘Maas’ who will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 74 at all times. ‘Maas’ will display the required signals for respective operations by day and night, all vessels are requested to pass with caution, minimise their wash and monitor VHF Ch.74 at all times.
8. River Medway - Saltpan Reach - Grain LNG Jetty 10 - Dredging Operations - dredging operations are due to take place at Grain LNG Jetty No.10, dredging will commence on or around 16/05/2024 and is expected to be completed by 17/05/2024. Operations will be focussed around the berthing box of the jetty and will be carried out by the water injection dredger ‘Maas’ who will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 74 at all times. ‘Maas’ will display the required signals for respective operations by day and night, all vessels are requested to pass with caution, minimise their wash and monitor VHF Ch.74 at all times.
9. Ipswich - Twilight 5k Lock Closure - The Ipswich Lock will be closed to leisure traffic due to the Ipswich Twilight 5K event from: - 1530- 1830 Saturday 11th May 2024. This closure is due to the race requiring the use of the Ipswich Lock swing bridge. The Lock may reopen sooner than stated dependant on race timings and mariners requiring more information should contact ONS on VHF CH 68.
10. River Orwell - Fugro Orca - between 13th May- 17th May 2024 the unmanned vessel Fugro Orca will be conducting sea trials within the River Orwell. The vessel will be escorted by a guard vessel at all times, a listening watch will be maintained at all times on VHF Ch68. Mariners needing more information on the current position of this vessel can do so by contacting ONS on VHF CH68.
11. Ipswich Restricted Lock Ins - please be informed that there will be limited access for locking in and out until further notice. Locking out will occur during odd hours, such as 1300, while locking in will be scheduled for even hours, like 1400.
This temporary restriction is a result of an unforeseen problem with the lock gates and is being implemented based on the guidance provided by the Engineering team. Mariners needing more information can do so by contacting ONS on VHF CH68.
