Well that cunning plan didn’t work so why didn’t Boris’ Blunderers just doctor the stats❓
Well with Brexit all but a no-deal now he doesn't really have to give one jot for what other European nations think - and clearly he doesn't. The easiest thing for him to do in that case is to create a smokescreen giving the illusion that the UK has managed the pandemic really well and that most of the rest of Europe is a hotbed of infection.

Seems he can't even do that.

He should be pensioned off sick!

Common guys it’s not quite over, anything can happen
But since the divorce bill has already been signed (was that the evil May?) there really isn’t much incentive left for the eu

Actually, it's only just starting wef 1/1/21.

First contact with the enemy --------------------- and all of that.

As a Portuguese resident, quite the opposite. Hence this thread - all very embarrassing .

I'm no fan of his but can't help thinking with the lack of pandemic experience, no-one else would have done much better IF they also listened to the so-called experts who it appears had their heads up their arses. Hindsight is brilliant:)

I agree but if they have ‘their heads up their arses’ surely it means they do have hindsight

Wrong 'experts' you're listening to then ;)

Nearly 4 months ago from the WHO, plenty similar from scientists along the way from the very start, UK GOV just dragged their heels and people died that shouldn't have. Very sad. >

And wrong forum for this maybe....
As we have said many times before, this is a new virus, and the first pandemic caused by a coronavirus.

We’re all learning all the time and adjusting our strategy, based on the latest available evidence.

We can only say what we know, and we can only act on what we know.

Evidence from several countries is giving us a clearer picture about this virus, how it behaves, how to stop it and how to treat it.

We know that COVID-19 spreads fast, and we know that it is deadly – 10 times deadlier than the 2009 flu pandemic.

We know that the virus can spread more easily in crowded environments like nursing homes.

We know that early case-finding, testing, isolating caring for every case and tracing every contact is essential for stopping transmission.

We know that in some countries, cases are doubling every 3 to 4 days.

However, while COVID-19 accelerates very fast, it decelerates much more slowly.

In other words, the way down is much slower than the way up.

That means control measures must be lifted slowly, and with control. It cannot happen all at once.

Control measures can only be lifted if the right public health measures are in place, including significant capacity for contact tracing.

Wrong forum, you could be right but when I said Boris should be pension off, this a guy who nearly died from Covid so hardly think he is now up to leading the country through these difficult times. If not pensioned at least extended sick leave.

Where Boris and his government is going wrong is he is allowing the medical and scientific experts to voice political strategies - schools or pubs is one such case.

As to the future of this thread, it has probably run it’s course.

I am afraid I cannot agree. It is simply unfair to call the young selfish. Yes they are young and yet to go through and learn what only time can teach - ps we too were young once, remember?. Secondly they not us, are paying the price for this disease for the rest of their lives. They have very little risk from it, yet will have to bear the brunt of this economic disaster for years and years to come - no jobs, huge amounts of national debt to repay that will suppress growth and so on. We all lived and grew up in a golden generation. They will be the first generation unlikely to end up better off than the last. So perhaps we should give them a break before calling them selfish. I think it would be far better to try to understand their fears, their desires and their concerns and then collectively come to a place that respects their future as well as ours. Sorry to feel so passionately about this but with 4 kids of my own who are at or around Uni age I really worry for them and we as the older generation cannot simply point the finger at them because it is easy to do this. I read people saying that the only thing that matters is public health, public health, public health and then the economy. Really? Well without an economy we will have no public health. Every 1% drop in GDP results in many many more deaths than.we see from Covid, it just isn't so obvious. No one complains when the developed nations cut their aid programmes because it doesn't show up in our newspapers or a death somewhere far away isn't the same as one on our doorstep. So as much as it all sounds good and the sounbite works, the simple fact is that is is not as easy as that. Everything co exists and it is about time there was some balance in the equation. Apologies.
Thank you for this. Any senior person who wants to call the younger generation "selfish" should first please (1) pay their TV license and demand their peers do likewise (2) if sitting on property wealth, start encouraging building more homes so others can enjoy the opportunity you had (3) support raising the pension age automatically so that, for each retiring cohort, expected receipts are funded by historical contributions (4) if already retired, putting hand deep in pocket to fund own end-of-life care rather than demanding the taxpayer pick up the tab

1/ I do even though I don't live there I still pay the license.
2/ How, I'm not a builder or the government. I own one house in uk.
3/ The government are doing this already.
4/ I am and I fully intend to.

And I have and will continue to finance the new generations, my son and grandchildren.

I suggest you start a new thread if you want to continue this - the thread title is not relevant. Lets put this thread to bed.

Absolutely. It's all part of the plan to pretend that the UK is somehow less affected than many other countries in an attempt to create the false impression that Boris and his government handled the pandemic well. The truth is that he (and they) screwed up appallingly and the UK is now the dirty man of Europe!
100% spot on. How easy it is to hoodwink the gullible Brits.
