Northumbrian pipes

Pauline Cato is a great, and a bit more adventurous in pipe repertoire (I think) than Kathryn Tickell. "By Land and Sea" has several nautical tracks. If you want out-of-copyright music then some Joe Hutton recordings of traditional hornpipes might fit the bill. The Bagpipe Museum in Morpeth, run by the Northumbrian Piping Society, would make nice stop off for one of your car journeys to or from Scotland.

There's a chap in our music club....

Who plays them .... so if he & I are there on Thursday ... I shall ask ..... :)

My favourite Northumbrian pipe tune is the High Level Bridge. I've tried to find a video of it being played by someone like Hamish Moore but have given up and I have instead posted a link to the undisputed Master of the small pipes (in whatever incarnation in the UK) Fred Morrison playing his signature tune, 'The Hard Drive'. Simply amazing. We sailed to the Gigha music festival this year and went to his gig. My two piping boys (aged 8 and 10) were blown away, as was I (the piping Dad).

If it's wacky piping you're after Gordon Duncan was the master, but the Simon Fraser University pipe band (SFU) do an awesome tribute rendition as a band here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jK7GcYDzlVI

I could go on... let me know when you get to the west coast and we'll do a Shuggy family performance for you!
