I would like for my first post to set some of the records straight in my view. We have been liveaboards for the last 3-4 years in England, the ports that we have lived are Portishead, Glasson and Hull. This year we gave up the rat race with a view to move south, thus far we have only made it as far as Ouistreham, this is the bit that I would like to say to those out there who haven't considered it as a place to winter should not discount it, if you like the following

1. Quiet, tree lined Marina
2. Having to communicate in the native tongue
3. Large supermarket 10 mins on the trusty treader
4. Well stocked chandlery, up the hill past the supermarkets (not the two next to the marina)
5. Great staff
6. Reasonable cost (2300 Euro for 6mths for 55ft Ketch)
7. Ferry to England 10 mins walk (this may not be a positive)

So if thinking of going to Caen, think "what do you want from the marina" as Caen is only 15km up river on the treader along the canal if you need a fix of retail therapy and in our opinion the marina is not as good as Ouistreham.
