Non-boaty.....why no hot water in home shower?

Have you got inline taps in the hot water line (you should have)? A bit like seacocks. Perhaps these are giving problem and a quick turn of these may help.

My shower instructions say to turn the shower thermostat occasionally from fully hot to fully cold several times to free off any deposits.

I'll have a skeet around for inline taps, but most of the pipework is behind freshly tiled stud wall.

Some Mira shower mixers have inline filters in the mixer bit i seem to recall.

this may have furred or blocked up so restricting the hot flow.

Nearly impossible to diagnose without being there. We could ask you questions all night about the system, but without being there to see it and try it in the flesh we are going nowhere. It'll be one of those "Oh, you didn't tell us that!" situations.

I suggest getting the plumber man back in.

If your'e offering to come down to Burnham to have a look....that's very generous of you!

You'll be most welcome.

Burnham is a charming town, and I've got numerous small boats you could amuse yourself on the river in.

The guest suite is very comfortable (as long as you're happy with either a bath or cold shower).

Let me know your ETA.

(OK ..... I'll call the plumber man in a minute).

You don't say what type of pump it is. Ours is a Salamander that has a habit of occasionally switching itself from negative head setting (green light) to positive head (amber light). With the latter, turning on the shower does not give enough initial flow to start the pump. Switching it back to negative cures the problem.

The pump is by Boss (hey...twin impellor, no less).

Can't see any lights, or way switching from positive to negative.

Shower problems

My shower problems currently are of a different variety. The cold shower gets too warm. On first turning on the water is a nice cool temp but shortly after it gets warm, no not as hot as you might have in winter but certainly not refreshing. It seems to happen every summer. Obviously the domestic water pipes are getting hot in the sun somewhere but I don't know where. SWMBO is asking about water cooling systems. I shrug. The problem will go away in a month or 2. You see cold shower is very desirable. Temp today were 25 to 42 as it has been nearly that hot for the last week. Nice tomorrow only 34 max. Lucky cos I am going sailing. yes with lots of cold water to drink. I do understand however that you might need a hot shower in UK olewill

Possibly an air-lock ?? Has anyone mentioned this?

Do the pipes that run to your shower come down in the wall from above? possibly the attic.
Are there long...ish horizontal pipe runs in the attic ?

If so then you may need an AAV installed. Automatic Air Vent.

No idea how the plumbing runs....it's a town house on six half levels, with pipes going all over the place. This shower is on the same half floor as the pump, though the shower head is above the pump.

I've given in, and called the plumber......but real thanks to everyone for their suggestions. All very much appreciated.
