I was all set to get my boat surveyed (survey cost £500) this winter becuase GJW require a 10 year insurance survey.

However I spoke to Noble Marine insurance and they said they don't require a survey.

The premium costs are similar. Noble a bit cheaper actually.

Anyone have any experience of Noble?

I think I'll switch to them. Seems a nice way to save £500.My boat is only worth around 12k.

Thanks

Noble Marine in days past used to be the go to company for racing dinghies and had a good reputation for paying out swiftly.

I have been with Noble for three years.

The premium has increased by less than 3% per year.

I have not had to make any claims.

They did not require a survey, just self-certification and a few recent photos.

i have been with Noble for more than 10 years, they are a broker. My dad also uses them, for a longer.

i have had one claim (boatyard dropped mast) which the insurance co surveyed, and the boatyard reduced their bill by the amount to fix the dent.

I do require an out of water survey every 5 years, but i guess this may vary depending upon what individual insurers wish for?

It is important to note that they are a broker not an insurer, so the conditions will depend on the actual underwriter. Make sure you read the policy as not all give the same cover.

I insure my sculling boat with Noble, and have done so for 10 years. Top marks for easy to deal with and very pleasant, and good value. No claims yet. But it's only worth ~£3k (although 3rd party could be more), so not a very expensive craft. I insure my sailing boat with Pantaenius, FWIW.

I have just insured my boat with Noble M, it was the only one I could find that didn't require a survey, boat worth 12k. Also, I did use them in the distant past for a trailer sailer, never had to claim, then I didn't bother insuring it because it was kept in my garage and dry sailed.

Visicover would be worth a look as an alternative that don't require a survey. Similar approach to Noble described above - you can edit your cover live to play with your quote so by removing things you were not planning to do this year (like let someone else borrow the boat, or sail to shetland etc) you can save £.

Noble are just a few miles down the road from where I live.
They have yet to provide a competitive offer but last time were close.

I have been insuring my boats through Noble Marine for 40yrs, mostly racing dinghies. They are notoriously good and quick at handling claims . They may be a broker, but you just get a Noble marine policy and only deal with Noble marine . Their multi boat policies are also very good. I am paying 1/2 of what I was a few years ago when my policies were scattered around.

Thanks to all for the advice - didn't actually realise they were a broker
Will try visicover for a quote too.

Most are Brokers - even the big companies. They are usually connected to one or two Underwriters - but some are able to search round the market ...

Underwriters do not generally communicate with insured. Only when conflict occurs and Brokers are unable to deal with a claim / action taken by insured.
I had exactly this situation when a certain East Coast Broker acted outside of reasonable conduct, instructed surveyor to find every point that could be used against my claim AND for any previous claim they were aware of. Surveyor confirmed that very detail to me directly.
Brokers being found out - refused to discuss further and matter was passed to Underwriters to deal with direct. Underwriters sent me a Fax ... yes a Fax ! stating that it was Underwriters Policy not to have direct communication and that all proceedings would be dealt with by Fax or Email.

Just thought I'd pass on that .......

Oh that Broker closed down shortly after ..... but I see that a couple of years later - the Name was back up and Running ... I hope they changed their ways. I will not name them - but can say that when the 'Hurricane' went through UK south years ago - they were one of the best .. but sadly that did not last long.
