<font color=blue>The Yacht Club at VVW is pretty good. VVW is the Marina up the top on the left. Its a fair old walk into the town. If going to Bolougne just pop over the bridge and go upstairs at the corner cafe, not bad, not bad at all. Whilst in Bolougne go in the Yacht Club and give Jeanne Pierre my regards. If your French is good enough you might ask him why he didn't come over in January as he promised me.

We prefer the KYCN Marina which is to starboard at the end of the channel. The Yacht Club here is also very good and its a bit closer to the town.

If the weather is good it's worth the walk alongside the entrance channel towards the beach.

The marina in Boulogne was refurbished last year. We hope to cross over this Friday possibly to Calais or Boulogne, the forecast looks good atm.

Good Luck

Re: VVWNiewport

The Maitre'd in the club at VVW was hilarious last summer when we were there. It still brings a smile to my face thinking about it!
The closest thing to Basil Fawlty you will get - especially when we asked for a table for 17, and he has interesting alternative words to the "Happy Birthday" song.

Byron is right, its a long trek into town.

<font color=blue>I wonder if he was the Geezer that chewed me out for speaking to him in French. Really went for me, told me he was Flemish, hated the French and spoke English anyway.

Re: Fingers Crossed...

We have had our share of grief with the new tub since December. Mostly due to the lack of use by the previous owners. Essex Boatyards have picked up most of the bills though.

We went up to St Kats at Xmas, and a starter motor gave up. Also made a couple of trips to Dover to shake things down.

We have had autopilot troubles, new domestic water pump, new generator, cooling water hoses burst, stop solenoid sticking, broken nav lights (during road transit), leaky windscreen, new fridge rectifier, fuel filter bleed screw sheared off (diesel everywhere), sticky float switches, blocked eberspacher, and many more too numerous to mention.

The wonderful joys of boating!!!

<font color=blue>Don't worry I don't owe him a Euro. He and I are real good mates. Be careful if he offers you some booze out of his freezer, I swear he has to keep it there because it would explode at room tempreture. Oh Yes! thank him for the wine he sent me with another boat... I had it at Christmas dinner.

<font color=blue>Dunno when I will get there this year as I intend spending more time on the Thames enjoying some of the social events, apart from which I spent far too much time in Ramsgate last year.
<hr width=100% size=1>
Problem with Ramsgate is I know too many people and get involved in the social circles, add to that boats arriving daily from the Thames all forcing me to have a drink with them and then go out for a bite to eat.

Belgian Ports

From west to east

1)Nieuwpoort: It's a huge marina, and that's all it is. It's a mile from civilisation, so unless you have folding bikes, forget any evening entertainment. Watch the entrance in anything over F7 from the northern quadrant. Aim between the breakers and gun it.

then it's 10 Nm to

2) Oostende: the queen of resorts. Marina is just outside city centre, next to a Delhaize warehouse store. Lot's of entertainment. Bad news: outside basin fills up quickly, rafting up is not allowed as the pontoons are too light. The Mercator dock has place to spare but locking in and out takes an hour each way.

There it's 10Nm to

3) Blankenberge: smallest marina on the coast, non-posh atmosphere, cheapest, but Blankenberge is the Blackpool of the Belgian coast (read into this whatever you want). Can be shallow for anything with a draught over 1.5m

There it's 4 Nm to

4) Zeebrugge: ugly industrial, expensive. But accesible at all times in all weather. Nice to know it is there.

There it's 18Nm to

5) Westerschelde: Flushing, Terneuzen, Breskens, in order of pictorequeness.

<hr width=100% size=1>Group of people on the pontoon: skipper is the one with the toolbox.
