I don't want us to chase away Motortech, and it wd be great if more manufactuers and marine industry companies contributed. Succes stories on these boards have inlcuded MDL, who previously were perceived badly but radicaly turnaround it seemed to me anyway, and ICOM whos JonBrooks helps around from time to time, without banging the drum and with obvious helpful attitude etc. Volvo seem to attrcat a fair deal of stick (use of words like Vilevo for example) which in part seems to derive from a keeness to sell as many not-inexpensive parts as poss

Anyway my question is

"How does a Volvo dealer win an award?"

Is it by buying lots of spares from Volvo? In which case, the "best dealer " according to volvo might actually be the one to avoid and the "worst dealer" wiould be the one who economizes on unnecessary parts. If this isn't correct - how DO volvo score/rate their dealers? Praps it's a round robin thing, so everyone wins an award now and again. Or what?

Engineer-wise, the more engines you can fix and keep running with the fewest possible parts, the better the engineer I spose- more first-time-correct diagnoses and less unnecessary replacement. But from a manufactuers point oif view, this would be less profitable in the short term, and difficult to measure - both the very best and the very worst engineers (who hardly did a stroke) would use small volumes of parts.
