NT can afford it. As someone said they want all moorings at £30 a pop, not us anchoring for nothing , by the way do you get free mooring if you join NT

Clearly someone needs to sponsor a new jetty -maybe with a small hut at the end to serve suitable nibbles to visiting RiB drivers ? Sad that the NT are letting a historic jetty fad away like this if accounts are true.

Despite all the years as a child on Fathers and others boats / later with own - countless times in Newtown creek ... I don't remember a jetty ... just the dinghy ride to the yard wall and climb up the slippery ladder ...
Memories of others who didn't leave enough painter and dinghys hanging !!
Also I remember before any buoys / moorings for visitors - it was drop the hook in an empty space !

I feel sad that NT are limited on budget - sign of the times ... but isn't there a factor of 'value for money' ? How many people will benefit from a new jetty vs other commitments they have ? Sorry to be blunt - but in this day of so much calling on charity / public funds .. ??
If as alluded to above - there had been a voluntary box to put money into - why wasn't enough collected ?

Perhaps it is apt to remember that the NT doesn't (is not allowed) to charge for anchoring. What they do is to ask for a donation. I usually donate £5 per night quite happily, knowing that the NT are 'looking after' the river and some of the surrounding land. There can be maybe 30-40 boats anchored at any one time. I'm sure some of those don't donate, I'm also sure that some donate rather more than £5.
As this money is donated by the very people who may make use of the jetty then it would be equitable to use some of that money to maintain/retain/replace the jetty.

National Trust Financial Reserves are in excess of £400m.

No but you do get a vote at the AGM for the people who make the ultimate decisions!

Personally I'd keep the money in my pocket, and give it to a charity which sticks to its remit.

My dear departed Mother always gave to the lesser charities - the ones who didn't have the advertisement budgets .. huge admin costs etc.

It was only after she passed away - I found out she had been assisting with fees for a number of African children to have schooling. She paid direct .. refused to give via the agencies. She actually visited .. and my late Brother kept an eye on it as well - as he spent a lot of time there.
