I need to have a clear out of boat stuff, but there are no more boat jumbles in the south east this year as far as I am aware. And I cannot be bothered to list it all separately. However, the one at Newton Abbot Racecourse on 24-Sep is still going ahead, so I was wondering if anyone can comment on it’s popularity before I commit to A five hour round trip.

many thanks in advance

Hi npf1, i live near Newton Abbot, and, apart from last year for obvious reasons, i have always gone to the boat jumble. There were always queues to get in and there are quite a lot of stalls. The only downside is that in the last few jumbles, the prices asked for old items was high and made buying a new similar product a better deal. It is not Beaulieu but it is still a good size jumble and, God willing, i will be there. Wishing you good luck if you go.

Out of interest, does any bigger stuff change hands at boat jumbles - I assume storm sails, sea anchor, drogue, ssb… might shift. But what about aircon units, water maker, diesel generator…

It’s all legit! Contemplating (just contemplating at this stage) “de-blue watering” our boat as unlikely now to be able to travel further than Europe but cannot bring ourselves to part with her - assume I will need to list everything individually online to get a fair price but not been to nor contemplated a boat jumble.

Ahoy Capt npf1 ; i went to the Newton Abbot Boat Jumple for many years , only live about half hour away from it ; its held on the Newton Abbot Race Course grounds ; always well attended , crowds to get in , earlier the better it seems ; selling Boats , Dinghies , trailers, lots of second hand items with some local Marine Stores /Boatyards also selling their new stuff ; its well attended from way out at Plymouth and beyond ; Outboard Engines New and Secondhand etc ; some times Inboard Engines both new and secondhand ; from talking to some small independent traders it would appear that these traders travel the country selling at Boat Jumbles around the country with an itinary of Boat Jumbles already listed , date ,time , place etc ; cannot comment upon the likes of Beaulieu as never been there to make a comparison ; best get there quite early as by mid day its happy sellers are dispersing having sold their Booty leaving the Stragglers with unsold goods ;

Have come accross Sellers who over bought items when doing up their boats so now wanting to off load it to another similar Boats Doing Up person

Best of luck with your items for sale ; also seems as if Peoples /Sellers /buyers are contact making so that they possibly can do deals later on away from the Boat Jumble , which must be a good idea ; especially Traders who make things so can make the items to order afterwards ;

I can remember the first Beaulieu jumbles where I got some real bargains. Over the decades there are more dealers that frequent all the jumbles usually asking silly prices. Newton Abbot has a fair number of genuine boaters clearing their garages and I suspect that after the last year of restrictions there will be more people clearing out surplus gear. I will be there trying to shift my unwanted items. My best bargain from Newton Abbot was a stainless pushpit for £5 which I bought at the end when the seller didn't want to take it home again.
It is useful if you join forces with a friend to keep the cost down and so you are not tied to the stand for 5 hrs as you are not allowed to leave until the end.

Newton Abbot boat jumble? I would not bother- nuff said. You would be better off visiting the Solent boat jumble at Netley, 2nd best after Beaulieu. Titchfield is not bad either. Check Chaddock and Fox website.
