I have just purchased a Laurent Gile designed Audacity 22 built approx 1960 from cold molded ply For the News Cronicle.
And here is where the many questions start.....
1. the boat has been in a shed with good air flow for the past 25years and in the main is bone dry. The only exception is a couple of bits or wooden trim that are slightly damp. Is there any good pre-painting wood treatments that would help preserve wood now boat is in wind watertight store for refurbishment?
2 Boat is fitted with 2 cylinder Coventry Victor Petrol engine. the Coventry victor site appears to be dead now with the advertised phone line cut off. Does anybody know of any good sources of info/advise/parts as engine will certainly need rebuild? or has anybody converted to diesel? Space under cockpit sole is very limited so i'd be interested to hear how any changes were carried out.
3. I've had a good read of the International Paints web site but would appreciate any suggestions on which is the best paint manufacturer/system to adopt to give a really long lasting/hard wearing finish.
4. lastly, what would a rough market value be for a boat such as this when refurbished to a good standard.
Many thanks for help that can be given, i'm sure there will be more questions to come as progress is made.
