If you chose a standard horizon set try and get one that can use the ram4 mike as it is so much nicer than the ram 3 and much bigger screen.
The GX1800GPS which I linked to in post 31 takes the optional RAM4 mike.

Thats the set ive actually got but didnt want to suggest a bias towards standard horizon ?.. The explorer range has a lovely big blue screen but is quite a small set only some 3" deep and i think its a lot nicer than the more expensive one with ais.The GX1800GPS which I linked to in post 31 takes the optional RAM4 mike.

Contact Standard HorizonMy Standard Horizon GX2200e with gps and ais just went kaput. Four years old. My other non gps one is about 12 years old and still going well.
It just went blank and silent with no nmea. Power getting to it.
Any idea if these are worth repairing?
Yes, have already done that but the forum may have prior experience of their repair facility.Contact Standard Horizon
