Totally agree. I think the key thing they look at re engine hours is not the actual hours because these engines should last for 100,000 hours if properly looked after, but it indicates heavy use of the inside and all the other bits. I just refit my s58 - unintentional consequences of a different issue! - and added a watermaker in the rear cabin loo which is a waste of space. makes a massive difference.

My sincere apologies DW, I did not read through the end of the thread. Lesson learned. What a nightmare and i hope everything is resolved. I had a big claim that was resolved last year and i found the insurers fair and good so I hope you have had the same experience.
 
Think an extra '0" must have slipped in by way of typo! 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, for 23 years would be a stretch even for d12's! Or put another way, average 100 hours use a year for a thousand years...! Even 10,000 hours would be v good going, of course...
 
Gulp...I think too much red wine when typing but yes, a zero added by error. How nice would that be! Apologies......and its not even summer yet!!

Sorry to hear that, also because I don't see why any ongoing investigation could justify the delay.
I mean, I can see why the insurance wants to check if there wasn't some negligence involved (which imho is not unlikely), but if there's one thing which is crystal clear is that YOU are the last person on earth who could have any responsibility for what happened.
So, I'd expect a decent insurance to refund you PDQ, and then carry out their due diligence and possibly ask the shipping co. or whoever at fault to refund them.
 
In my case which was much more complicated I found that the key person was the loss adjuster that the insurance company appointed. It is critical that you understand where he is coming from etc. I believe ultimately that it is all about his or her recommendation. I had a really sensible and decent person who was very open with me and without him I would have been proverbially rogered.
 
The insurance company will appoint their own loss adjuster who will act on behalf of the insurance company. On a claim of this size it would be very worthwhile to appoint your own loss adjuster who will be acting on your behalf.

Thanks for your suggestions, I have looked long and hard at it and questioned it with several experts, including one very helpful forumite in the industry (I am indebted and owe you several beers!). It seems that this is normal and just the way it works I am afraid! I think the main reason for it is that the insurance was taken out through the shipping agent which is normal and on the face of it beneficial as they get a better rate than I could as an individual. The problem is that the policy is actually in the name of the agent with me as the beneficiary. Had I taken it out independently, while I might have paid a higher premium (it was actually double) I would have been paid immediately - a lesson to everyone perhaps!
Anyway hopefully it will not be too much longer!

I don't visit this forum much anymore, but saw this thread, skipped to the beginning and was busy admiring your new boat... skipped to the end and couldn't quite work out what had occurred in-between… now just read back. What and unbelievable story, I am so sorry as boats are more than objects. I wish you all the very best in finding a suitably lovely replacement.

Like a lot of others I started at the beginning and then saw 14 pages and though oooh theres going to be some great refurb pics at the end ... I'm so sorry , what an absolutely unbelievable story
