What, stuck up one are we ? Either spray the chimney with a liberal dose of patent boat disappearing liquid or else take 2 tablespoons of Soltron thrice daily. You will soon lose weight with this potion and will be able to freely slide out of offending flue.

2) No, unless offspring are both strong and cooperative. The latter situation is very rare.
3) Yes, with due care re. weather and kit on the boat.
4) I reckon diesel will be about 30% more economical - not sure of actual gph figures as this will depend on size and condition of the engines.

6) Yes, but not me. I think atleast 1 contributor has used them.

1) YES for sure - I tow a 23 ft Holiday with a 3.0 Colorado - no sweat.
2) YES for sure - We launch and recover with the familiy - needs a wife that can drive and teenagers. ps we also have two little ones who need to be quiet for 10 minutes.

AND.. you set off the diesel/petrol debate again, to which I'm eternally grateful, as I am currently having the same debate myself and didn't want to throw in the "red rag" myself and watch the bulls come 'a' chargin' (have you heard yourselves? you got a tad bitchy you know!!) But as usual guys, you have been more than helpful.

Any threads like this are going to have evangelists, the good stuff will still come through. You can't expect such discussions not to have strong opinions behind them.

You need the core 'characters' in any forum to keep things moving and provide the stability as people come and go, and have to allow them to drift threads as they've seen these very same discussions many times before, and having the same discussion every time would be boring.

No reason to be shy about asking a question you want an answer to though. Questions are what make the forum thrive, or else us Old Guard end up talking rubbish to each other to fill in the gaps.(It's a frightening thought that I might be Old Guard, as I remember my early posts, stating how difficult it is to break into this forum)

Well that seems to prove that diesel is better. But theres more to it than that. For the odd jaunt around the bay with a trailer boat, or day trips. Petrol is fine. If expencive. It's where distance is involved, where range price and fuel availability are concerned, and especially as the boat gets bigger. Fancy taking a bus to the nearest garage for a couple of hundred gallons of petrol??

You know Brendan is going to be putting the mother of all posts up later in the year, either about an idyllic time in the Scillies or the dubious delights of being storm-bound in Penzance.

In the wrong conditions a Princess 35 feels pretty small off Longships, I would image. The only time I have been around there it was in a F0 gusting F1 and you could have taken anything to anywhere.

As it happens I would imagine the freedon to explore the Scillies in relatively uncomplicated boats with sterngear that lifts would be rather fun, don't you think?

I've been off Longships a few times Kim. Well six times if I remember correctly. I've never seen it calm, even on the best of days, theres no protection and the tides are meeting from every direction. Theres a choice of being stuck in Penzance, behind the lock gate, so cant escape when weather improves, or Newlyn. Newlyn is far more exiting by comparison as you get to clamber over umpteen masive rusting hulks to get to the nearest boozer, I darnt call them pubs!!

The problem with taking a small boat to the Scillies. Is not so much in getting there. Your just not going to go if the weather looks bad. But then once there. There is no really safe moorings and even going to shore can become imposible. or at best uncomfortable. Trying to find a suitable day to come back, when youve had quite enough exitement for one week, is the difficulty. But theres also the lizard to negotiate, I've turned back from there more than once in otherwise calm conditions. It's not a case of cant be done. Of course it can. It's the balance of probabilities which makes it unfeasable, unless trying to be a hero of course, and all summer to spare.

Couldn't agree more, I enjoy the way the threads go and all the very different opinions that come through, all have a definite and strong basis and some very interesting theories!

Wouldn't life be dull if everyone agreed with each other!

The last time I passed the Longships was in a Waveney class life boat on passage Fishguard to Newlyn having had SW F7-8 blowing for few days...trust me I felt pretty small that day!!!
