New to boating - possibly unrealistic?

Those D6's look fantastic and you will fly in/with economy /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif. Part of not rushing for a new bigger boat as well as not knowing what we want is the fact that those engines will not be filtering through for up to a year. I have heard they will be very scarce until next year, especially the D3's which will revolutionise the small boat market diesel wise /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

hell Dom, now you have me jealous!
I would make do with one D6 in that boat - more rooom for cruising stuff and a whole lot cheaper to run!
btw - no further fuel problems have shown up and I am planning to pull the filters next month as a final check.
finally - what do you get out of your 805 as a 'normal use/conditions' top speed?

as said, your first boat will always be special to you, but you ll almost certainly want to move on. Thats partly because you havent really developed quite what sort of boating it is that you really enjoy so how ever carefully you decide on the first boat, you ll find sleeping on board,speed,practicality of trailing..whatever... you prioritised incorrectly. 23ft odd on a trailer will weigh towards 2.5 -3.0 tonnes, so unless you have one of the big 4*4 already, you re going to need to buy one.And maybe it would be wise to gets some experience launching and recovering something smaller first.Not knowing what you are doing on a steep slope with water at the bottom with a total load of 4-5 tonnes is not going to be an easy experience. Theres alot to be said in looking where you will use the boat, and what boat seems popular at that location. Talk to people there. Incidently, trailer law is more complex than first appears. Search for other posts.

Had (have?) the same requirements some 8 months ago. Still without a boat after enormous trials, research, boat yard visits etc. Already have the large V8 4x4 but the area of towability is almost as difficuilt to pin the reps down about as the top speed (the guy who commented that the towing rules are more complicated than first appears is right!). For info have (almost) decided to go second hand for first purchase (for alot of the reasons in the thread). Interested in your final decision if you want to PM me.

So you say, but its not what you know its who you know if you want to get things earlier. I am personally going to see if they turn out to be "test" units first and see if any one manages to bend them or should I say they bend themselves.

They look good but can they deliver. Irs all well having the journalists 1 day trial point of view who probably has to gloss it up cos "they are a big advertiser you know and have a big budget" rather than the plain and simple truth. Long term test will see and I hope they are as good as they reckon cos if they are I will have one errr two.

Cruise at 29-30 knots have been faster at WOT up to 37 onc just on GPS but conditions were perfect ie tide running etc etc however I have twice made it back from Lezardrieux in 2hrs and that includes speed restriction for the estuary. Do about 7.5 GPH put it this way last year I could have done Guernsey - Dielette - Granville - Lezardrieux - Guernsey on 330 litres.

How about passing the info on to MBM regarding your fuel problem/solution as they were supposed to be testing the additives further according to the article in peoples boats and also there was a posting here on the forum asking for people to come forward.

Hugo (Andreae) can you shed any light on this and would you take Duncans word for it seeing as there were forum people present when it happened and since?

Tell your mate with the 805 he must get tabs fitted its like a new boat with them on. Hows he getting on?

And then buy one secondhand.you will then even be able to afford a subscription to MBM.
