New Tender for Blue Angel

Actually, I did wonder where JTB took the above pic of S & E, but I was quietly hoping that the thread will soon be lost in the cyberspace...

That's nothing, she doesn't seem to have a crane up there, too!
Yes indeed, but I was wondering if there is a hot tub up there? I'm not sure from that picture. Anyway I wasn't at all proposing that this Can82 is a masterclass in boat retro-mods (BA/Bart beats it on that score 100x over). I just was adding to this discussion by posting an example where someone has retrofitted some (how-not-to-do-it!) support poles :)

I found a answer to this quest about a strong enough FB, in my own post about the 1995 Canados

Furniture on the FB in very good condition.
4.3m tender with 60Hp 4stroke Suzuki

500Flybridgerear.jpg

this BSC Rib and Suzuki outboard, on paper it is 17kg less heavy then the Novurania 430 with Yam F70,
so in practice they weigh the same.

This 1995 canados 23 has a wooden superstructure, almost identical to Blue Angel,
So I think I'm going to do without the Option 1 poles.
(while in my mind they were already in place :) )

IMHO the hull needs more stern lift and a long term project is to fit extra mould GRP planing surface on the hull (like Avon 400DL, my last tender, which had loads of stern lift and never had bow lift as it shot out of the hole).

J, didn't you consider a pair of these so called "smart tabs" ?
Renee offers them as a "recommanded for F70" option. this confirms with your experience.
coincidently I still have a pair of those, boaght long time ago for a small boat, but never used them.

I could do, but they look a bit small and cheap tbh Bart. I much prefer the idea of running the hull surface back past the engine, as on the Avon SE400dl that I had on Match1 - pic below. Not an easy job to make a grp bolt-on component though, but I might give it a go.

Bart, saw this in PV at the weekend, the supports are in exactly the position you were thinking, level with the front edge of the aft bench seat.

Also, i'm sure there are specific characteristics you want or need in the new RIB, but just in terms of a nice looking 4.3m RIB, I saw this Zodiac today in a big chandlery near my home. They have a big sale on because they're moving to smaller premises, but I didn't see any sign on this RIB.

this solution looks a bit "bombastic" imho, a lot of work for the result, and not nice if not perfectly done (if you can see that it is a add on)
I don't care that the smart tabs look a bit more "utilitarian" or cheap if you wish, at least I'm going to give it a try.

Nick, I just abandoned the idea of the poles, because I found the pic from another Canados, with a similar tender,
I saw a new "Absolute" with the same poles in Dusseldorf, all nice
I can alway's change my mind in future.

I also had a look at that Zodiac model in Dusseldorf,
I prefer the console with the SS grabrail on top, from the novurania,
handy handrail for climbing in the tender,
and you can helm her while standing (I think)

thanks for posting

It isn't just a matter of different style though, B.
The bombastic solution, as you aptly called it, also increases the stern buoyancy below planing speed.
I never tried a rib with such appendix, but I can see why it could be much more effective than any fixed tabs for improving holeshot, particularly when heavy.
Anyway, I wouldn't rule out also proper trim tabs, in a 4.3m rib which is meant to be loaded.
If I understood what are the "smart tabs" you're talking about, they would be my last choice, tbh.

Yep, you can. Been there, done that.
...though for your height, the console might be not as tall as you would like it! :)

ah, there were no comments on my Option 2 solution, while also that could be a viable option, as here on this Falcon 86
Can't see in that pic, but I'd guess there's a crane on port side, right above the pole.
And if so, the other pole on stbd side is most likely just for a symmetrical look.
Other than that, I can't see major reasons to justify that choice.

good point, didn't think about that,
many years ago in Croatia, Boris had a rudimental planing boat (7m Elan), with a big 5l merc sterndrive
he GRP'ed 2 x box, about 20cm high, left and rignt from the sterndrive on the transom of the boat, flat with the bottom.
and flat on the topside, just like a small bathing platform, you could stand on it,
with exactly this function, he was very exited about the performance !
Jfm, can you design this ? :)

these smart taps work with a spring, as soon as you make speed, they go up, / flat,
you can adjust the force when they need to go up
but ofcause they add no boyancy.

John, how about the Marine Deck 2000, cork deck floor,
are you pleased with it ?
would you recommand this ?
I'm about to confirm my order for a 430DL
Yes I would recommend it. It is cork not plastic, and I would prefer plastic (like Dek-king or Tek Deck) but the cork was the only product that Novu would supply. So it was "take it or leave it". By taking it, the job is done. If I bought the boat with no teak I would have to organise templating and fitting of the teak here in UK, which was just too much work really.

One year on, I am very happy with it. Except very close up it looks like teak anyway, and its wear resistance and Coca-Cola + petrol-spill resistance is good. It gives good grip on bare feet when wet. Knowing what I know now, if I turned the clock back 1 year I would definitely order the cork teak again (for the tender, not the mother ship!)

I sent you some high res pics to your email so you can zoom in, but it doesn't matter much to be honest. When you are close it looks like cork but as soon as your eye is 1m away you think it is teak

They do black or white caulking

Did you get the invoice by email, btw?

Remember to look out on eBay for a Yamaha YCop unit. US-supplied engines do not have this. I think I paid £200 for one, brand new in box. Also buy some of these for the transom bung http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261359888834?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 . It is easy to drop one and EU chandlers often do not stock them, so it can spoil your day (you can guess how I know this! :D )

Trailer idea...

Bart, are you having the Novu 430 delivered to Antwerp? Are you buying a trailer to bring it to SofF?

If you are, here is an idea. I need a trailer for the 430 too - I'll explain why later

So 2 choices:

1. I can buy the trailer off you when you've finished, if you don't want it; or
2. You buy a new trailer in Belgium (for €1000 I guess), I will send you 75% of the cost, and when you have done your delivery of your new tender you give the trailer to me in SofF, and I keep it. This means you get a new trailer for the delivery to SofF, and you don't have to drive it back to Belgium as well

I can receive the trailer from you anytime you are ready - March to July

No pressure - just an idea :D :D

exactly my thought, Initially I didn't consider the teak finish, for the extra weight, but this little extra wouldn't make a difference
(compared to the Karnic, where I have just for this reason no Teak)

good to know you're pleased with the cork ! Black caulking for me sorry :D

I did asc about some details from your invoice on here, so I thought you knew I got it, and avoided spam in your mailbox ;-)

I'll do thanks a lot !
