A thread to share our rumours, frustrations and general rants.

I suppose it will be a while before hear the impact on us but hopefully it will be at worst how it was when we first came out of lockdown ie we can still visit our boats and sail but not stay overnight.

It would also be good if the marinas can keep working lifting boats in and out and that we can do our winter work. I'm due lift-out early December and I'd like that to go ahead.

They said it is not as restrictive as the first lock down so July 4th rules will probably apply but overnighting will be allowed because they are not banning people from staying at second homes.

Reading a discussion elsewhere my understanding is no overnight stays are being going to be permitted.

The other concern is harbour authorities or marinas taking it upon themselves to shut up shop

Who gets to decide?

if second homes are permitted so will overnight stays. He did say that these restrictions are not going to be as severe as March.

that's not what the BBC are saying
  • Households will not be allowed to mix with others indoors, or in private gardens

The last time around there was no statutory requirement for harbour authorities to ban private use but many did so anyway.

Indeed Cowes remained closed for some time after the restrictions were first relaxed in May

Yep, it sounds like we are being instructed not to leave home unless we have a reasonable excuse under one of the exceptions, which this time includes going to school. The question will be whether visiting or using your boat is either essential maintenance or exercise.

I wonder if “sailing school” will fall into whatever the definition of “education” is when the regulations are published?

Have received two of them, clearly I am valuable customer!
Sorry to burst your bubble but so did I. ;)

Not sure why MDL felt the need to send it, they seem to have a view of the customer/supplier relationship rather different to mine. I'm quite used to taking orders (and comfortable with it) but not from people that I'm paying thousands of pounds a year to.

MDL should not seek “clarification“ over the definition as they are inviting someone to say boating it not recreation.

It’s surprising they are taking this decision before the regulations have even been published. I think if I was running the business I would be interpreting the announcement as favourably for the continued running of the business as possible until the regulations or my lawyers told me otherwise.

However, a cynic might conclude they want to take advantage of the furlough extensions while pocketing the full berthing fees of their berth holders!

Whilst I agrée with you I have some sympathy with businesses, the Kafkaesque nature of the way these things are done means they could be fined for doing something they didn’t know was wrong. That’s how that supermarket in Wales got in to trouble for making sanitary products non-essential.
